Oh it's real alright..............there it is right there!
If it's legit, I can add it to my very rare Case knife list. I've never seen one quite like it!

Re: case 25 cents
Somebody in Tennessee seems to have recently had some old Case tang stamps made and learned to operate an engraver. The fakes have been poping up like crazy now for the last few months. All the folders have been rehandled in stag like that one. Case in point (no pun intended): http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-VINTAGE-REPLIC ... 1e5b2c9e25

Re: case 25 cents
It's funny they show an ink printing of an actual Case 25 cent tang stamp.
Yet they don't show a close up of the actual knife tang stamp, on a knife that has a $ 725 buy it now tag!

Bob ,the bowie your referring to was made in China. It has a china import tag on the sheath that can and has been easily removed.

Re: case 25 cents
I think I have seen two knives on ebay in the eight years I've been on it that had the Case 25 cent tang mark that I felt were legitimate. Both were the 6106 pattern, a 2 5/8 inch barehead boy's jack knife. There are 49 other states in the Union to buy knives out of that I rate ahead of Tennessee in terms of number of fakes per state. I tinkered with one of your pictures a bit and this might give you a clearer view of the tang marking. But, since it has Jim Parker's endorsement, who am I to argue??.....

Re: case 25 cents
How well do you know the seller? For that matter, how well do you (or the seller) know James Parker? Well enough to know that he's been dead since 2004. The "25 cent" knives were never produced with stag handles just like all the other fakes that have been showing up lately. Even IF they were real, the rehandle job would really hurt the value of the knife. I'll be going to the Case Factory in July and if I see a knife with the 25 cent tang stamp on display with stag handles, I'll provide pictures of me eating it.badboycase101 wrote:the seller was in bradford last week thay have the same case in the musume .he has 400 knifes and he is a real colleter he said james parker said it is the best looking case he has ever seen and my knowleage is not needed hear.thank you
These knives coming out of TN lately with the old Case tang stamps (mostly by the seller of the knife in the link I posted above) are pure fakes. I've seen old Kutmaster (to site just one example) patterns re-done in stag and restamped with a bogus old Case tang stamp. The motives are quite clear.....sell reworked knives (fakes) and pass them off as more valuable brands to make money from novice collectors who don't know any better. The person doing this type of "knife work" is, in my book, a theif and is hurting knife collecting as a whole. So "badboycase101", if your post is an attempt to defend that seller and what he is doing, I must assume you know nothing about knives or you are the counterfeiter trying to defend what you are doing by lying about those knives. Those stag handled old Case Knives being sold by rh_stranger out of Lafayette, TN are fakes, pure and simple. The "25 cent" knife pictured in this thread looks to be the one I saw sell on ebay a few weeks ago. Perhaps this seller is just trying to get his money back.

Re: case 25 cents
I think BB was quoting seller not defending him.
It's a real shame these folks don't put their talents to work in a legitimate fashion. Ebay has created the perfect environment for these guys to thrive in.

Re: case 25 cents
I was mistaken to think you were defending the seller. I misunderstood and please accept my apologies for it. Also, you were being too kind by just saying that the knife was "not right". A fake is a fake and if that was what the seller told you, I think you can see how much credibility they deserve.badboycase101 wrote:to mr elvis i dont like what you said to me what i said in my post was from a email i got from the seller i dont sel knifes on ebay i dont no the seller i told the siller his knife was not right .thank you
Maybe because the "creator" of this current run of fakes is being so shameless about it, they have just gotten under my skin a bit more than usual. Can you tell this is a pet peeve for me?

He'll probably give someone a second chance offer. In his description he says he paid $575 for this knife. Honestly, the knife is worth a lot closer to the 25 cents stamped on its tang than $575.
The people who lost the bidding for this knife are some of the luckiest bidders on Ebay.

Re: case 25 cents
In all liklihood, Kentucky (where M-fake is from) and Tennessee are the two leaders in the amount of pure-de-fakes that show up on ebay. And to my mind that's a shame since they both also have a lot of legitimate collectors yet the skunks draw the notice with the ludicrous junk they push. I think the state that has myrtlefake would be the leading state. But thats my opinion, also.

Re: case 25 cents
The reference to and the tang stamp of 25 cents ..... was that because of the cost of the knife at time of manufacture or were there underlying reasons the 25 cent tang stamp was used ?
I only ask because I DO NOT know ... trying to educate myself, I hope ??

Re: case 25 cents
I remember reading somewhere that those knives were produced during the depression (lots of product....not much money). It was a way Case could show they were competitive in a down market. Until I hear a better theory, that one is the most believeable (just wish I could remember who's knife book I read it in).Ramrod wrote:J5, what years would would those be from? Mark

A lot of people assume that the 25C knives were made during the depression but I am not sure that was true. It may have actually been during the 1920's when competition was particularly fierce.
The earliest Case factory price list that I have is from 1934...the 6106 is shown at a price of $4.00 per dozen. The dozen prices back then were actually the list or retail prices not the wholesale prices (seems odd I know but this practice continued into the 1960's). That means that in 1934 during the depression the retail for the 6106 was about 33 cents. So it is possible that a few years earlier it was 25 cents but I'm not sure when the depression really kicked in, its hard to see price going up from the beginning of the depression in 1930. But could have happened - there were price controls and such put in place as the depression wore on.
