Vintage Rigid fixed blade knife

can anyone of you tell me the exact model of this knife here?



AOL 23cm = 9.06"
Blade 11cm = 4.33"

I don't know what model ..but she sure looks similar to my Buck Kalinga.
Nice knife...those older Rigids are dandy's.

I don´t think so, please check out the measurements of your and my knife. You seem to have a far bigger knife there.

You are correct;I just measured it and the overall length is just shy of 11" and the blade length is 6".Somewhere around here I have a folder with various Rigid models;I'll see if I can find it.

That is a Rigid Ripper model. Whether it is a USA Hand Made version or later Japanese made version I can't tell. The Stamp, where it is placed, examination of the Sheath, etc would tell us more.

If you happen to have a copy of "Gun Digest Book of Knives" (1st Ed 1973) you can refer to page 243.

Rigid Knives of Santee California designed and built between 8 - 10 different Fixed blades, all hand ground from 440C (most all we would classify as Skinners) and a couple of folders. Being that two of the founders (Bill Duff and Don Collum) worked for BUCK for many years might attribute to the resemblence in some of their personal designs.

Indeed the Rigid Ripper does resemble the Buck Kalinga but the Kalinga is more upswept. The Ripper may have started out as the Rigid model known as B.T. Miller's Skinner - or it could have found it's start with that design and been modified by one of the Makers.

That would be REALLY great.

BTW: I´ve already owned two huge Rigid folding knives in the past: Apache and Cherokee.
Their handles were too big for my hand, the same goes for their fixed blades. That´s the reason why I needed some more information so I can throw the knife in the electronic bay next weekend or so...

This is their model R-1, sidewinder. An early model, heavy and well made. I have one of these in my collection. If sold it should fetch $100-150. It looks unused and the sheath is in excellent condition.
