Errant pin in HOLLY?

Hi, I've got this old Holly that has a brass spring pin, and the pin is turned in it's place at least 1/2 turne. Being fashioned to accomodate the radius of the scale upon manufacture it now has an obvious high and low side. And oddly, there is no other brass in this knife. I would appreciate anyones comments on this sweet little (3 5/16) Holly. Thanks.

I zoomed the pictures, and I think the other 2 handle pins are brass also, they just look tarnished to me.

When I zoomed the one picture, I noticed a gap between the spring and the liner on one side. This probably has something to do with the pin being misplaced.

I would suggest oiling the blades, springs and pins...and seeing if you can gently bring it back or closer to how it was about 100 years ago.

I have with some old knives I have.

Thanks, to remington collector, and pen & toothpick for your observations. I will get some oil on that knife and try to bring it back in form. I regret not showing all of the back side of the knife. It is sound.

I'm glad you liked it gino. the stamp is LAKEVILLE. As in Lakeville Ct. Not far from where I live. They didn't make HOLLYs for very long, and they made a fine knife. Check them out.

Thanks tjmurphy, I think it looks real sharp with the NS shield and bolsters. I have five or six other folders with the ebony.
Was this a pattern of early 1900s? The ebony I mean. All my other knives of this handle style are quite old.
Can you fill a beginner in on what PK stands for. Thanks.

PK= pocket knife.

Another one you'll see is EDC. EDC = every day carry.


The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

A word of advice on old knives. If two blades run off one spring, it's a good idea not to open the blades in such a manner as to push both ends of the springs out at once. Those old springs were as good as they could be made in their day, but they sometimes get tired and will snap. Finding replacements is usually like finding chicken lips. Keep 'em oiled and enjoy 'em. That is a great old knife.

Thanks, Owd Wullie, for telling me about PK & EDC. I will never forget your advice about opening two blades on a spring.
It makes perfect sence. I supose half stops would ease some of the tension but there's no half stops on that knife. Half stops or no, I won't do that again. I'm gald you liked the knife. It's a great carry. Best regards.
