Puma Folding Knives

Here is a nice Puma knife I just bought. It is the first one I have ever owned. Does anyone know when it dates from? I have several sheath knives but don`t see to many folding knives.

If anyone else has some please post them to this thread I would like to see some!

The Puma 4 Star series started sometime in the early 1980's as I recall.There should be a series of numbers stamped into the side of the lock bar that is a date code.My list only goes up to 1983 but there is a Puma site that has the full list.I'll see if I can locate it.

Gorgeous little knives. I like the steel handled models. To me they look completely utilitarian and business-like.

I only have one Puma knife, which was given to me years ago. I was trying to research it and stumbled onto this website. It has some good info on models / years produced / and how to determine manufacture date. Maybe it could be of some use.

I just got this Puma 4 Star from our AAPK auction.

She looks good in the photo. I have not recived her yet in my hand.

I like the scrimshaw work. Both sides.

Just thought I would add her to this tread. Now when was she made?

At four inches closed, this is not a small knife. It does have a very solid feel in the hand. The blades have a good edge on them and they have a firm, satisfying snap when they close. Though I'm not enthralled with the jigging pattern, the dyed bone handles are fit very nicely to the frame. Overall fit and finish is very good. IMO this is a well made knife and I'm glad to have it in my accumulation.

I have a Coast lockback that could be a twin brother (or is it sister ) to these two Puma's. I really like the Coast. It's solid in the hand, sharp and most of all, opens as smooth as silk.

I just traded with Otto for these Puma knives. They are still in the mail. He told me that he bought them in Germany about 20 years ago. I'll looking forward to receiving them. I also won on last week's Chat Room auction this Puma Lockback.

I've been carrying a 460 Cadet for about a month now. HELL of a nice little lockback!

First "stainless" steel pocket knife I've carried for more than two or three days at a time in about 30 years too.

A very old brand name and quality knives!

I got this knife a couple of years ago and it is of recent manufacture. It's a nice stockman, but the fit of the handle slabs leaves something to be desired. I suspect that it is not made in Germany...

These are not the best of pics, but all I could find at the moment...

My son, Matt (Sketch on AAPK) tells me that the newer Pumas are made in Spain. Not sure when that started.

I also picked up this old 970 Plainsman. The date code shows it to be Jan of 1970.
