Case Fixed Blade Knife and Sheath no ID

Hello,

I regret to say I know nothing about knives except for practical use. However I recently got a CASE knife from my sister and I was curious about how old it was but it doesn't have any ID # on the tang? Not sure if that terminology still applies to fixed blade knives as I've only seen that term with fold out knives in my searches. It was my Grandfather's and he passed in 1981, my Grandmother continued to use it in her sewing kit until she passed. My sister got her sewing kit and recently gave me the knife as she knew it use to be my Grandfathers and we were very close so she wanted me to have it and I really appreciate it.

Sorry if my pictures aren't the best its so shiny its hard to capture good, The knife is just shy of 7.5 inches and the blade is 4 inches

If anyone has any information on its year or years of manufacture/issue or original intended use and history I thank you in advance, have a great day.

I don't know the model, but the tang stamp puts it at 1940 - 1965.

Welcome to this forum ShiftClick. The intended use of the knife was field dressing, primarily.

I also don't know much about Case fixed blades, but there are many knowledgeable folks here and you will have more info soon, I'm sure. I looked in a couple of books and I am going to guess your knife is a variation of the 366 pattern. I agree with Elbertson on the date range, too.

If I have it right, Sargents 6th edition Pg. 262 has it as model 315. Produced between '34 and '71.
