Schrade Cut Co Easy Opener Repair

Here is a Schrade Cut Co I repaired for a customer in Australia.
It is such a beautiful example I decided I would post it here where the Schrade crazies (like me) hang out!

I didn't take a before pic, but the pen blade was broken off and there were chips out of the main blade.
There was also a crack in the pile side scale.
I epoxied the crack, reprofiled the pen blade and cleaned up the main blade.
I cleaned the rust & gunk off the blades and polished the scales with carnauba wax.

I have a soft spot in my heart for these old easy openers, especially the ones with ebony handles.

Great spear blade on that knife. The chips must not have been too deep.
I sure wouldn't be embarrassed to tote that baby around!!

The chips were about about 1/8" to 3/16" deep.
I was a bit concerned about keeping the shape and taking so much metal off the blade.
But that old knife had a PHAT spear blade. I think the blade was pretty much full, except for the chips.
With a bit of care I was able to retain the shape & still get the chips out.

That is one of those knives that has most everything I like in an old jack:
a fat spear blade, beautiful shield, ebony handles, easy opener & tear drop rear bolster!

It is hard to find one better than that!
Well, unless you have a time machine and can go back and buy a box full of brand new ones!

I appreciate the sentiments Wosey, and thank you.
However, there is different skill set required to build the knife as opposed to repairing one.

As the repairman I look with awe at the old knife I hold in my hand and a profound respect for the men who designed and built these beautiful tools which have survived for close to 100 years and still look so marvelous and function so well.

Those men are the craftsman in my book.
