I am wanting a whittler I never had one. What would a good cheaper one and sould I get a new one or a old one I have been looking at a case but I am not to big on buying new knives

Whittlers are my favorite knife to collect. Case makes (and has made) some really nice ones. If you're looking for a nice one without spending a lot of bucks, try an ebay search just using "whittler" and I''m sure you'll find some well made ones that won't break the bank. Personally, I'd start with something like Boker or Hen & Rooster just to get my feet wet. Nice quality and fair prices. A lot of the Schrades marked Whittler actually have a stockman configuration. A little homework will pay off. They're a great knife! Have fun!

I think Elvis is on the right track for ya.

I had Mooremaker 3 spring sowbelly whittler a while back. It was made by Queen for Mooremaker. It was a HELL of a knife, but i could not get used to the blade configuration. Seemed like it was backwards every time I went to grab a blade. I've pretty much carried stockmans and trappers and tear drop jacks all my life. What ya get used to I guess.

I've got two or three whittlers in my pile o' knives, but they aren't my favorite for carrying. Only one of them has any size to it and it is an I*XL with a punch. The others are wee tiny things. I carried that I*XL for a while and went back to a teardrop jack.

I like the Boker serpentine whittlers best of all. The older pattern 8313 or the newer 280 are my favorites!
You can find these new or old unused for $20-$30.

Nice photos. The Bokers are good users for the money. Schatt & Morgan make some nice whittlers too. s-k
