The Rarest Old Timer?

A couple says ago I went to my Post Office box and there was a package. In the package was what I believe to be the most rare of the U.S. made Schrade or Ulster Old Timers. This is the only one I have seen. I believe this Old Timer is far more rare than the 2OT.

This Old Timer was made from 1988-1990. It originally sold for $17.95 the first year and increased $1 per year, ending at $19.95 in 1990.

The model number of this Old Timer is 902OT. It is the only Old Timer made by either Schrade or Ulster that is not a knife. This Old Timer is compass.

As you can see in the pictures it came in the Schrade Old Timer box with the graphics and color scheme used on the knife boxes from about 1985 to about 1998. The box is branded Old Timer as well as the compass itself.

The 902OT is listed in the Schrade Short line catalogs of 1988 through 1990. This means that it was offered for sale during 3 years. I doubt Schrade actually made the compasses, but I do not know for sure. If you look at my Schrade list in the AAPK Knife Research section, you fill find that I listed it as being in the catalogs from 1990-1991. That date is in error. The correct date for the 902OT is 1988-1990.

This is not the only compass Schrade has offered. I believe there were small promotional compasses that were given away with knives or as a promo. I am sure Larry (LRV) or Eric (ea42) would know about these.

The 902OT is the only non-knife Old Timer to appear in a Schrade catalog or price list.
I have been watching ebay for one for 4 or 5 years but have not seen one offered for sale. I believe that Schrade knife collectors overlooked these. I think the 902OT is not generally associated with Schrade by the public at large. I think this is why they are so rare and why we do not see them on ebay.

I had no idea Schrade ever offered a compass in the OT-family.

I'm in an unfamiliar place right now and the 902OT might have come in handy...

I don`t have one but I had a chance to buy a box full of them about 10 years ago.

A local store that sells odd lots from liquidated companies, overstock, bank foreclosure, etc.

They had at least 30 or more of them all new, no damage. I can`t remember the exact price, but they were no more than $5.00 each
