Who I am (so far) and how I got here

Post by SilverBackLeprechaun »

I bring greetings from the southest shore of the north coast.

I was born at a very early age with nothing and still have most of it. I've lived under the last 13 presidents of the US and I love my country and detest politics. I have a grown son and daughter that I'm very proud of and 5 grandkids with the oldest starting her first year of college. I've had a variety of vocations and avocations with my training in engineering and my love in physics. I owned and operated a small steel fabricating company for 13 years and spent 5 years in the physics department of a local university before venturing into a recreational sport business for 6 years. I've been civically active most of my life and sat on everything from recreation commissions and school board to emergency preparedness director and founded and chaired a local development corporation for 8 years. I have regrets for things I've done and remorse for things I haven't. This all seems like a lot until I realize how long it took to do them but I still have time to screw up some more adventures.

As for knives, they have always been a tool in every aspect of life since childhood and I've used, lost, broken, set aside because they were special purpose or neat in some way and just plain wore out dozens of them. Now everything in the world has become "collectable" and I'm taking time to look at them rather than only what they can do and how well they do it. A few days of a short read-bout here and I've learned a lot and anticipate learning a lot more. Seems like a great bunch of knowledgeable folks and I hope to pick your brains and get to know you better.

Quality should not be an accident. So what is the explanation for some of the knives we've seen in the past few years? (from A Knifebuyer's Manifesto)

Thanks for the friendly welcome, ............ BUT,

I don't think I'm going to like this place. :x I may have to delete my profile and email address from this site and wipe my HD clean and start over, pretending I never came here. I'm NOT a collector and I DON'T WANT TO BE a collector!

I don't know my butt from the butt end bolster of a knife. That's why I came here, ………. to learn something so I wouldn't spend $ $tupidly. I don't have any idea what is a good deal from a bad deal or even what makes a good knife special.

I've been here less than four full days and tonight I bought two knives off fleaBay that were going off in a matter of minutes while I was "just looking". ::doh:: I think you guys put something in the pixels here that corrodes the brain and turn people into ………………………………. 'COLLECTORS'. ::paranoid::

After I put my wallet in a coffee can and have my dog bury it in the back yard, I may come back here.

Sadly, you cannot cure the virus, only treat the symptoms.

Since there is no cure you may as well "manage" the illness best you can.

One slipjoint per week for the next thirty days should keep you functioning.
