Question About Case Kitchen Knives

Does Case still make kitchen knives? If not, when did they? Any information on the numbering system would be nice.

I am surprised nobody has answered this yet and to be honest, I do not even know.
That said or printed; I got to go over by SMKW Labor Day weekend and I will check downstairs and try to get the info you need.

I do have an old Case butcher knife with a block stamp that I read in an old Knife World that was supposely made by Robeson. I will post an image of it if time permits also.

We stopped by SMKW and the ladies downstairs where they keep the kitchen stuff said "No, not really; that sometimes they still do get steak knife sets in". I looked where they keep the antique knives and found no help there either. If I ever find anything for sure, I will update this.

Here is a image of the Robeson made Case XX butcher knife stamp and if I remember correctly I read the article in an early 1990's Knife World.

Kitchen cutlery was a huge part of Case's business for many years from the 1930's into the early to mid 1980's. Then it seemed to drop off quite a bit...then after the Parker ownership and subsequent bankruptcy, it dropped to a very small selection offered, all of it was finally discontinued in the early 1990's.

As mentioned Case did bring back a steak knife set for a few years but that has been all. Also, all Case kitchen cutlery made after about 1988 or 89 was made by another firm on contract. When Case shut down their older plant (1988-1989) that was the end of in-house kitchen cutlery manufcture at Case. The new plant has never produced kitchen cutlery.

Occasionally I find a kitchen knife by Case, Queen, or some other company not normally associated with kitchen knife manufacture these days. I usually find them at estate sales, garage sales, yard sales or flea markets. The good old carbon steel is so nice to cut with. We cooked a whole ham & a turkey for Christmas. I carved them with my Cattataugus slicer & a Queen boning knife. That old Catt is the thinnest slicer I have and it really holds an edge. I sliced a 21 lb ham & an 18 lb turkey without ever sharpening it!

I found this site looking for some other info and I notice this thread and I am going to try to post some pics of a knive set that has been in our family since the early to mid 60's. The cleaver is also Case but was bought seperatly.

I had it the first time I posted and I was going to add the 6 pc. Case steak knife set and I mess it up. I will try again.

I can't answer the question about the Case knives, but I have a picture of an unusual pattern from Case.

Unfortunatly, some one saw fit to use it as a splitting iron and beat the snot out of the back of the thing.
