Is there hope for Case?

When I enlarged the bottom pic of your knife I see the very same thing as what I'm describing on my Case knives. From the pic you post it looks like the very top edges of the runup have been rounded over, probably from polishing. This makes the fit at the runup to the spring have a rounded look instead of the square edges it should have. A very simple fix. I have looked at all of the different knives I have in my display case at the store and the American made Bucks, Queen, GEC, all fit perfect in the runup area.

I know Case can do much better if they just would. All the shine in the world can't hide the fact that this is poor workmanship on their part.

I thought I was mistaken on the 1 Crandell series Case I have in a saddlehorn pattern, but alas, 1 blade met perfect but the other was the typical rounded Case runup.

I will admit that I am seeing a little improvement in what Case has been turning out lately. Just wish they could finally get it right for a change.

After looking at 2 different '33 pattern Case knives that are years apart, I understand what knifemaker3 is saying and I hope these pictures will help illustrate. Look at how the "run up" is rounded off in the 2000 Case 5233 as opposed to the Case XX 6233.

Does it hurt functionality? Probably not. Does it look good? You be the judge.

You guys have my total attention when describing the issues you are having with Case knives. But I must admit it is way over my head. I'm partial to Case because that is what the old folks carried years ago. Back then, those knives were mostly "tools", now we collect them and enjoy these American made knives. Some are really works of art and some are still used as tools. I have quite a few that I have worn out and just recentely, thanks to reading AAPK messages, I realized I could have several of these old "tools" repaired because of the warranty provided by Case.(should have paid more attention!) On Feb 2nd,2011, I sent an old knife that my wife gave me for Christmas in 1966 to be repaired. It is a C61050SAB(hardwood). On Feb14th,recieved a note that Case had received my knife and too allow 6-8 weeks for servicing. On Feb. 18th, UPS delivered my knife. What a surprise! We opened the package and I thought that they had sent a new knife. But on opening the blade, there were my initials stamped foolishly many years ago. With service like this I say there is certainly hope for Case!

That's funny I recently did a re do on a old T-29, had a nice square run up, but in the pocket I could feel the sharp edge of the tang, so I rounded it a little, more pocket friendly.

I have more Case knives than anything, just hope their quality doesn't go south on us. They are an American icon for sure and well known, even by those not into collecting.
