skoal and copenhagen schrade knives

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

skoal and copenhagen schrade knives

Post by sparklingservice »

Hi,
I am a newbie to this board, so please bear with me if I am not in the right spot.
I recently purchased 5 schrade knives from a gentleman who told me he had gotten them as a promotional item from Skoal, and Copenhagen tobacco companies.
I intent to list them for sale on ebay but I need a little research help first.
In my search for similar item on ebay I did find these knives, the only thing that has me puzzled is that the words SKOAL and Copenhagen is printed on the blades, as well as the small emblem on the composite handle.
On the knives that I purchased, the emblems say SCHRADE, there is no printing on the blades, but stamped in, near the hilt, is skoal, & cope. usa.
He said he had these since the 80"s.
Are these, or are these not, promotionals from Skoal, & Copenhagen, respectively.
Thank you in advance
Joe

Do you have any pictures you can post of the knives, especially shots of the tang stamp?
Is it also tang stamped Schrade and USA?

Well I have never seen these without a shield that says Cope or Skoal I have a couple but they came out in the mid 90's not 80's and I got mine as a promotion you had to send the tops (or LIDs) off of the cans in ands you could choose from a bunch of stuff of which 3 Items were Schrade knives here is a pic of two of mine.
BTW Downsize your pictures a bit

Hi,
Thanks for the input. I knew these would be big photos. I don't know how to downsize them. I used tiny pic to post them.
So all in all what are your feeling on these. I don't want to mislead anyone in the listing description, so I am at a lost as to what to say.

I couldn't say for sure but would bet that they are knives that had left over blades put in them. I have been using Copenhagen for around 30 yrs and only know of the promotion I spoke of. I don't think it will make a difference in the overall price in the end.

Hi Joe,

Here's a link to a site that I've used to resize pictures. It is pretty easy to navigate. Perhaps it will help you as well.

Thanks Phil, I will give it a try.
I don;t know if it will help at this point though.
Funny thing is that the guy who I got them from was not a collector, Ive been doing this sort of thing for a long time, and you can tell, but he knew about the promotion from those companies. He said that he had sent in the coupons to get them. Im at a lost????
They were not in boxes, but they were in sealed plastic wraps with a bar code.

Schrade made a lot of SFO (special factory order) knives and advertising knives for different companies through the years.

The price on all knives seem to be down on ebay in the last year.
The Skoal & Copenhagen knives usually sell OK, from what I have observed recently.
Depending on condition those knives will probably bring between $15 to $35. Perhaps a bit more if the right bidders get into a bidding war.
The better the condition, usually the more the knives bring. With box and papers they may go a bit higher.

Welcome to AAPK and good luck selling your knives.

You might also consider selling them on Knife Auction.com- http://www.knife-auction.com/otheritems ... &nick=AAPK
Knife Auction.com is a free service of AAPK.

Sparkling Service,

I am a collector/gatherer of All things Schrade USA! Those knives are in fact promotional items manufactured by Schrade for Skoal and Copenhagen. I have most all of the Skoal and Copenhagen Knives that Schrade manufactured. Mine came directly fromn the factory, not Skoal or Copenhagen and all of those knives were regular production run knives that were done with the Skoal/Copenhagen Shields, Tang Stamps and covers.
