I have a friend that would like to know about this hammer brand auto and I told him I knew just the place I could find this info. The tang reads hammer brand U.S.A.

Hi Randy these were made in the late 30tys 40tys and early 50tys. These are by Imperial of course and while this tang ( hammer) was used so were imperial tangs. towards the end. These knives were super inexpensive so inexpensive that they were called carnival knives in that when you went to a carnival and won a prize( like for having your weight guessed ) this is one of the low end items you could pick as a prize. Now in the fiftys they stopped making the automatic versions and went to the regular slip joint which is probably more familiar to most. These were made with a stationary cross guard and with out. These today will often bring 75 to 150 dollars ( automatic version ) depending on condition. Here are a few variations a double set and even the machine dies used to make them. Note on the set the similar pattern sheath knife and the automatic. LT PS
