Books on Schrade

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values 3rd or 4th editions, by Bernard Levine. Those two editions have the most Schrade info.
American Premium Guide to Pocket Knives 1st or 2nd editions, by Jim Sargent Schrade not found in later editions.
Official Price Guide to Collector Knives, by C. Houston Price (I have the 14th edition which has a Schrade section, don't know about other editions.

A Catalog History of Schrade Knives, by Robert Clemente. Self published. You will have to contact the author to order a copy and the CD that comes with it. Contact him at: majormarket@charter.net

Those are the best sources I have in my library. Clemente's book is in looseleaf notebook format. It deals mainly with the history of the patterns.

There is some info in Blade's Guide to Knives & Their Values, mainly the same things written by Bernard Levine.

As far as books that list the values of knives, IMO they are out of date before they are even proof read, let alone published and distributed. The best price guide currently is to watch the completed sales on eBay for a particular model number and see what they are selling for. Knife prices have dropped recently as economic hard times have forced many people to sell their collections. The price of a particular Schrade pattern may currently be 40% to 60% less than they were bringing 12 to 18 months ago.
IMO, now is a good time to buy & a bad time to sell.

Hope this helps,
Dale
