new/old remington?

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

new/old remington?

Post by peshikthe »

i just got a remington barlow, but i have a few questions about it. first the stamp on the front of the main blade(circle remington/block letter/with made in usa around shield) 33-35 stamp, has a pattern number (reverse of main blade) is stamped 9505 without a r in front of the number. it is a long pull(squared ends) on main blade, and the pen has a circular nail pull. without a stamp or number on it. is this right or has someone replaced the pen blade? ill try to get some pics of the stamp, but it is a super nice stamp and clean and clear with nice original patina. any help would be appreciated.

This is a newer Remington knife.

I don`t know who made it but it was not made in the original Remington knife factory that is for sure.

Remington got out of the knife business at the start of WW II.

They sold all the knife making equipment to Pal Cut. Co.

All cutlery with their name on it after that time was made on contract by other companies.

Camillus was the last company, that I know of, that made knives for Remington.

Camillus went out in 2007, I don`t know who is making knives for Remington now ::shrug::

Most of the newer knives I have seen had the old style Remington stamp, I don`t know what system they used for the pattern numbers on these newer knives.

Someone who knows newer knives can probably fill in the blanks for you ::nod::

The knife you got there was not made in china, but made by Camillus here in the US. The US made Remingtons are currently being made by Bear.
