Remington finds Bullett plus

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

Remington finds Bullett plus

Post by galvanic1882 »

I picked up these 2 Remington's in a batch of knives and was wondering if anyone could help with values for them. I don't collect Remingtons so only know what I see on ebay and at knife shows. The Bullett is an R1123 and is really a nice knife. It's the first Bullett that I have ever owned and could see why people like them. The bone has no chips or cracks and both blades are tight and have the Remington stamp on the front tang and the pattern number on the back.

The Hawkbill has the number R698 on the back tang and has some of the Remington etch still visible. Any help would be appreciated, Mike

Galvanic, That R1123 sure has some beautiful bone handles. It's really difficult to put a price on it but I'm guessing $1,100-$1,400.00. If it had the Remington etch, it would bring even more. Are there any cracks around the lanyard hole? Watch your fingers with it, the snap is usually super hard! Of course I might be entirely way off and it could be worth a lot more. ::tu::

I am very new at knife collecting so take this with a grain of salt, but I do watch ebay like a hawk! I've watched about ten 1123's sell over the past month and the most I've seen one go for was just over $600. It still had a descent etch and the blades weren't sharpened much. Most of them sell in the $300-$400 range...at least in the past month.

There is one right now on ebay in just a lil better shape than yours that is at $365 with about 20 Hrs left to go. Ill let ya know what it goes for...the etching is gone on it as well, it just doesn't appear to have been sharpened quite as much.

Well the knife on ebay sold for 650!! The other one I was watching and started at 299 did not have the pattern number on both blades which means something, I think. The knife I have has it on both blades. Not sure if I will sell this one though. Like I siad it's my first one and really like the feel of it.

Thanks for all the help, Mike

Keep the 1123 Mike, they are selling at some what of a lower price now than a few years
back. Yours is honest many of these are cleaned and re-etched, maybe even an honest
knife but the seller wanting a better price.

I am leaning on keeping it but will have it with me at the Mystic Show at the end of the month and see what happens.

Thanks again for all the help on this one. Wish I had a value on the hawkbill but there is a live auction at the show on Sat night and I will put it in there and see what it goes for.

Thanks Mike

Mike, I had a Remington Hawkbill that I sold to Jim Sargent a couple years back. It
was Celluloid and still etched. I sold it with several other knives so I do not have a
price that I received, but later he had it on his table. $300 I think.
