I don't think anybody can top that find. Fifty years old or thereabout and looks like it has been in a time machine, marvelous example. Certainly looks better than I do for about the same age.

Re: My latest Schrade
I need some help here; I may have been had. I was over in Cody last week visiting relatives and there was what had to be the first garage sale of the year in this part of the world. Anyway we drove over there and to make a long story short, there was a small brown cardboard box with a bunch of Sears Craftsman printing on it, and inside, loose, were six barlow knives that looked like the famous 2OT we all yearn for. Except these say 3OT on the tangs. Are these some kind of counterfeit? I paid $40 for the whole lot. My research shows the 3OT as a small lock back.

Re: My latest Schrade
That is a great find Tom!
I believe it is the closest to pristine that I have seen in that pattern!
I am hoping to find a few Schrades this weekend at the OKCA show.
With 3 days of show, a Schrade or 2 should wander past my table, ya think?

Re: My latest Schrade
I know these Schrade knives, may not be what ever-one would call collectable.
However, these knives can be very hard to find.
Over the last five years, I have been collecting these Schrade USA knives, some of them being made in China and Ireland for Schrade before 2004.

Re: My latest Schrade
Gary-
Who did the filework on the 108?
I have not seen that sort of filework from the factory.
Schrade Walden dropped the Schrade Walden name in 1973.
I see on the box with the muskrat it says Taylor Cutlery LLC.
That is Stewart Taylor’s company, the guy who bought the Schrade name in the Schrade bankruptcy sale in 2004.
Do you know if it was made in China or the USA?
It looks like USA from the tang stamp…?
If it was U.S. made, any idea which factory made it?
I haven’t seen one of them in person, but it looks pretty good.

Re: My latest Schrade
Dale, The file work done by NORTH COUNTRY KNIFE DESIGNS. That's the 108OT.
The tang stamp on the muskrat reads ,,SCHRADE over WALDEN over U.S.A.
Blade etch reads,,,SCHRADE EVERLASTINGLY SHARP WALDEN , you have just proved the difference been an expert and a rookie, by reading the side of the box, I didn't even notice that, What is the story there. I believed it was good.
The 34OT is the knife I PM'd you about last week.
I hope you're not going to say it's not real. But I've been shafted before so no worries.
The 108OT, should I have not posted it here as it's not original, or is that OK.
cheers Gary.. PS. I goofed on the 1983 date, that refers to next one coming.
PS. This came from a long time collector in the USA.

Re: My latest Schrade
I have one of those 108OTs but no fancy filework. It's a great little knife with a big knife solid feel to it, a perfect carry knife in my opinion. Dale knows a lot more about these than me but I would hazard a guess that your 34OT is just fine. So is the muskrat, but you just have to understand what it is - or rather, what it isn't. It isn't a Schrade made in the Schrade plant by the Imperial Schrade Corporation - it is somebody else's knife with the Schrade name stamped on it. The names of these bankrupt makers trade like baseball cards on the playground, and that goes way back in the history of knifemaking. Things really got going in the 1970s, when Parker and Taylor, as well as others, started issuing all sorts of knives with various stamps of old defunct manufacturers they had bought up. So it can be hard to tell just by looking at the stamp who actually made the knife. In general, collectors are more interested in the original production from the old plant rather than generic knives with various tang stamps on them, but that doesn't make the new ones bad knives. I'd be real interested in knowing who made the muskrat, and I'm going to hazard a guess that it was either Camillus or Bear. Both fine knife makers. If you want a laugh and an eye-opener as to what I am talking about, there is a thread I think in the General forum called "Who really made that knife" - take a look at it.
