Case XX double sheath knife info

Looking for a value for this knife set, I've looked everywhere. One is stamped 516-5 SS Case XX Bradford, PA 19USA90 and the other is stamped 5 Finn SSP Case XX **SS** USA. Stag handle fixed blades. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i doubt those 2 knives left factory together as 1 is a 1990 manufacture and the other was made in 1986 ive picked up 3 or 4 of these sets at flea mkts and such in last year and normally paid 50 -60 for these most of the time they are tang stamped same year but sometimes they mite be a year different just from laying around stock but 4 years would be a stretch

I haven't found any others exactly like this but I do in fact have two identical sets of these so I don't think it's likely that someone just put them together unless they put several identical sets together. My husband & his father have been the only owners of them but I'm not sure if they bought them or got them as a gift.

One just like it sold for $157.50 back in 2007.

im sure they have sold other sets of those since 2007 because i have sold a couple myself worth point normally gives you the highest selling price and sometimes its an unexplained bidding war 2 people just have to have it for some reason and there is schill bidding where the seller has someone bid his stuff up and hopes someone jumps on top at last minute,dont take 2 much stock into the prices they give you

You are right, you cannot go by those prices. I listed it much lower and it went much higher. About $180.

Good strategy, chelle, glad you got your price. Knives have been beaten down low by the recession but maybe now they are starting to make a recovery - a long way still to go, put prices may be inching up. My feeling is I won't bid if the listing price is high, but I'll compete for one I want that starts low. Psychologically, nobody wants to be the only bidder - most people want some validation of a knife's valuation which comes from other bids.

Trail, how do you feel about bidding on an item with a low starting price and a reserve?

I just figured if it was worth more then they will bid it higher so why start high. I found that reserves scare people off too if they are set too high! You are better off to set it on a standard for sale listing with a price than to do it auction style if you are asking a lot. I'm just trying to get what I can for bills so I start low and figure it will go for what someone is willing to pay for it...if it's not quite as high as I like it's either not worth that much or nobody is really interested in which case you'll just keep holding it anyway.
