OK I have been hesitant about starting this display of Schrade Cuts since it is 1920s or earlier. Etched glass mirrored wood back door, wood frame. Very early rare heavy and scairy to mess with. Also a real pain to photgraph since with the glass and mirror lots of glare. So aside from my lousy picture taking technique that also leads to not great pics but it should give you an idea. Now regarding the knives that also will be a pain since there are dozens in this case. However the journey of a 1000 miles starts with the first step. Or so they say. here then is the first installment. Just a note the easy open jack with the etching ( that is hard to read ) says Stainless Steel. Now back then this was quite rare and considered top of the line this was one of the few models that were, so they made sure you knew it by etching the blade. It is an electro etch so with use has lightened. The Holyoke Harness jack has a real acid etch so it is still perfect. Acid etchs from Schrade were rare Holyoke demanded it and they have stood the test of time. You also might enjoy the rare coke bottle large doctors pattern . Notice the flat bottom that ( for those who might not know ) was for crushing pills. Also the patriotic utility or boy scout type knife is one I am also fond of. I hope to get back into this case in a while but here are my openers. We will see how the hand plays out. LT

That display is a treasure trove of special jacks, LT!
The coke-doctor has gotta be one of the rarest on earth!! A piece of sculpture for sure!
And I see HJs are well represented also! Yes!
I've always thought the Holyoke was stamped on the blade!? How do you tell the difference between an acid etch, and a stamp? I will have to get out my microscope!

Hi Dale it is pre 2-OT ebony handles, These are all Schrade Cuts. Yes that is a peachseed that has been pocket worn to what you see in the pic, The cell in #8 was a widely used pattern starting in the late 20tys and into the thirtys both Schrade and Walden knife used that type of swirl however it should be noted that it came in several colors and was a favorite of Schrade in there automatics ( doubles )as well .

There are a lot more knives in that display ( dozens ) however I thought I would give it a few days before posting any more to let anyone ( aside from just the couple of you guys who like myself are really into this ) check them out. I have 10 pics to a posting which is why I picked the number 10 . Good reason eh.

Oh by the way the knife i posted on the barlow thread is a NOGENT from France late 18 hundreds. They have been making them from the 16 hundreds. This is a defense ( named model).

Dale I did not get back to you yesterday but I am going into the frozen tundra to try to find the paper work youi need before sending your package.

The resourse for the Russell information was American knives by Harold Peterson circa 1958.

Sorry for any laxity in response however It seems that after i go to the Gym it takes about 5 or six days of hobbling around usually in intense knee or hip pain before I can start over. I think tomorrow I will go back to the gym. Machines and such cause much pain. The pool is a little less and affects other parts. However my real idiot mode is when I go into the heavy bag and sparring area. Now that is real pain and stupidity Nothing as a clever as a 60+ year old fat guy trying to spar with a 20 sometimes younger kid. Luckily they usually spare me but the body hurts for a week. Still it does allow a way to vent hostility ( legally) so it is a fair trade. Beside I just had my Maryland bridge put back in and I want to test it to see if it will stay in if I get rapped in the mouth. LT PS Pain is an excuse to drink so it has its good points . if you need an excuse.

the bone one is nice, but that pearl one really caught my eye, love a nice spearpoint blade. Somehow I am becoming very drawn to pearl knives. Now if I had to guess LT will come back and burst my bubble by saying it's actually imitation, but it looks like the real deal from here.

Nice group, LT! You continue to amaze me with the variation of knives that you have in your collection. For instance, that pearl barlow must be a rare one. Please keep posting the pictures.
By the way, my computer gave up the ghost, and I can't post pictures. I bought a new one, and brought it home today; now I just have to find one of my sons to help me hook it up and get it rolling! Sigh.......

A gentlemans barlow. one bladed spear. Unused. A present one day from a fellow who liked my beer and how I butchered his venison. I have never seen another he is now in his seventys and was given to him in a pile from his dad. I have a lot of things to post and need to get some more knives on board. I have so damn much paperwork that it overwhelms. However right now with the intense cold and being alone I feel like the fellow in that horror movie the shining. I am really not alone I went out back around dusk and a herd of around 30 deer literaly ran past me. Since my back was turned, and all I of a sudden they were running by me I almost flashed . I would hate to kill the bambi deer cong out of season. I am now at the point where I am looking for a female sasquatch to arm wrestle for the right to have my way with her. This week I thought I would ( since I am about half way through the big scairy glass display ) post a few items which are not normally encountered regarding items from Schrade. I included 5 variations of razors made by Schrade. One of them is a KEEN KUTTER which was made also contracted to be made by Schrade, There is one with a temperite translucent handle. If you look close at least one has a blade etch my favorite is the colored embossed model which I believe was inspired by the Huruns (spelling?) which then and still nest along the Wallkill and even the little stream ( Tin brook ) which was a deritive of a Dutch word and was interpreted as Tin Brook by the locals .

There is a pair of sissors which are marked SchradeCut Co Walden NY C they have a gunblue type finish on the blades. I have never seen another pair of these and no one going back to everyone who I ever knew has ever seen another pair. I investigated this item extensively. Upon conferring with Dave Swinden the conclusion we reached was that since Schrade never had the machinery or ever produced these they must have considered either getting into making them or at least had one or more contracted to consider adding this product to there line. They never did. This lone example was purchased at garage type sale from the home of a deceased ex employee when his children were clearing out the house after he died. The fellow I bought it from paid about fifty cents I paid about 50 dollars. Which actually was a lot less than I would have paid ( however was much more than any sane individual would have paid ). The marking ( stamp is unusual in that it reads SchradeCut co Walden NY. with Schrade Cut together which further increases my belief that it was a proto or contract. )

There is a Schrade sheath knife with jigged bone handles marked 662 on the obverse of the side marked Schrade Cut Co. While Schrade Cut Cos in sheath are fairly easy to find from the WW ll era ( usually leather wrapped, this pattern with picked jigged bone is obviously early in the companies history. This style of jigging was only really used in the beginning. The 3 digit model is also kind of an egnima and I have never seen this knife in a catalogue. It is interesting in that this simple style of hunter is rememinesent of the much later inexpensive Imperials and colonials. I honestly do not remember if I have ever seen another example of this early style and early Schrade Cut sheath knives I believe to be rare. I also included a jigged bone boys knife with chain.

The next knife is the perpetual calendar model which was only made in very limited quantity in 1937. The CPC stands for calculator pertetual calandar . In any event these were sold in two versions solid gold and gold filled. This one is filled. The big thing to look for on these is the word tiffanys. Usually the ones sold by this company were the solid gold specially ordered 14K version ( but not always) they were marked on the bail. While all the ones in 14K were so marked the tiffanys stamp usually insures it being correct. In either style these are high end items and quite sought by collectors.

The last knife in this group is probably one of my most treasured finds. Schrade made this advertising knife for there own company (in the thirtys ). There are very few of them around . You very well may never see one they were only made and given to certain people as promotional items for Schrade they are a metal pen knife. with embossed raised lettering. One side has the embossed Everlastingly Sharp Trade Mark and the other Schrade Cutlery Co Walden NY. Now this knife in decent condition brings a scairy premium price, They are almost impossible to find let alone in NM condition. This one came from a friend of mine who bought it from an ex vice president who moved after retirment to CT. It was part a giant collection he bought from him which was probably the finest and nicest collection that ever has or will exist. It is impossible to even describe. In this collection was this little knife which when I saw I had to have. My friend is a true gentleman and instead of raking me over the coals to sell it. He simply made a deal with me on some other pieces I was selling him and them nonchalontly at the end of the deal asked me if I would rather have the knife or the money. Now all this being said I thought I had a pretty good deal . When in fact I had the deal of the century ( kind of like buying an old cup and then finding out it was the holy grail. )

I had been told by my friend that the knife was a salesmans sample. Now how sweet is that, well it gets better. I had seen that the knife was indeed marked in hand writting as was done in that era. For those of you who collect you are aware of what this adds to a knifes rarity. However there was something that I did not realize. You see I am somewhat color blind. so I did not realize until I got home and was showing the knife to some people when someone remarked that this knife was marked with red ink. Now I wonder how many of you know your Schrade history. You see during Schrades history only two people who sold Schrades had there samples marked in red ink. In the later years it was Henry Baer. Under Schrade Cut it was Louis Schrade what I had acquired was Louis Schrades personal Schrade advertising knife from his collection. I advised my friend and sadly said I could not except it. ( Believe it or not) His answer to me was that I had to, a deal was a deal and he would not give me back my knives and he laughed. ( All Marines are nuts but damn good friends ). He said besides who else would have known. I have ten pics in this group but I guess after all ths should post a pic of the other side of Louies ( I can call him that I have his knife) LT
