question on legitimacy of pre 1972 canoe

The Queen Cutlery Company manufactured knives in Titusville Pennsylvania for 96 years. The company opened its only factory there in 1919 and commenced to make some of the best US crafted cutlery you will find. Unfortunately, the Titusville manufacturing plant closed down in 2018.

question on legitimacy of pre 1972 canoe

Post by oldgoat1911 »

I am looking at a "Vintage Queen Cutlery Bone Handle Pocket Knife" according to a seller.He further claims it is pre-1972 and that is why there absolutely no markings of any kind(including no shield on the scales). It is 3 inches long with stainless blades that remind me of PAKISTAN marked blades with pakistan buffed off. Pictures are not an option in the time frame I have get an answer. The bone stag does not appear very old. Any help is appreciated. Thanks....Herb

Herb......

Yes, Queen Cutlery has in the past not marked their blades and it could be missing a tang stamp..what concerns me is that you've mentioned that it appears to be of unknown lineage ( offshore ) and might resemble something that might of come from Pakistan......do a quick search on EBay of "queen canoe" and it should resemble those examples...Queen has built there pattern on a 3 3/4" frame...pre 69' and 3" is highly unlikely since this has not been a pattern of particular interest in the Queen line. The Queen pattern is the #64 and originally was a small sleeveboard and you really don't see the pattern come back until the late 70's.
Also do a search on EBay using "Vintage Queen Cutlery Bone Handle knife" and if it looks like this example your instincts are correct.

oldgoat1911 Hello;

Here is my 2%. I would let it pass due to the reason that you do not have time to check it out. Any time I am pushed to make a deal right now. I am always better off just taking my time to think slower. It is not like a kidney operation... :lol: :lol:

good advice, justold.
it sounds like the seller might have some *ahem* faulty information.
unless he's charging $5, i'd pass on by.

Herb...

You obviously have it bad for Canoe collecting or vintage Queen knives...........if it's Canoe collecting this is a great example of Pakistan Cutlery but if it's Queen your looking for keep looking because this is not it.......I provided you with examples of both please take another look.......
