A little history and a value please.....

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

A little history and a value please.....

Post by 95yjinpa »

I know its a Schrade Presto Pat Jan 30, 40. It is in amazing shape. I did have a new spring put in it. Snaps right open, and the lock works as it should. This really is a beautiful knife, if you find such things attractive.....lol.
Thanks for any help you can give!

P.S. I may be open to offers on this knife, but it would have to go to a loving home that will appreciate it as much as I do. There is also a great story to go along with the knife.

Richard Langston (lt632ret) has one in his book "The Collectors Guide to Switchblade Knives" that appears to be the same with brown swirl celluloid, page 111.
He places the value in mint condition at $300. Yours appears to be in comparable condition to his knife, (as near as I can tell from the pictures), which he values at $100-$150. I would say yours is probably worth about the same without considering the downturn in the collectable knife market in the last year.

Switchblades are not something I follow closely as I don’t collect them and I am no expert in his grading system.

Nice old Presto! ::tu::

Hope this helps,
Dale

Thanks for the info.
I saw one very similar online for $400.00. What would be wrong with mine to bring the value to $100.00-$150.00? It does need cleaned and polished, but it isnt broken and everything works as it should.
Thanks again!

Look for completed ebay sales to get an idea on what one might bring. Sometimes people list things for exaggerated prices that never get met. I haven't been collecting too long, but even so I can tell that the actual prices that are getting paid for knives have gone way down during the current economic troubles.
