Are case 1st production run knives any more rare?

Hey guys I'm still new to collecting case pocket knives so I still need yall's help. Are the case 1st production run knives more rare than the others?

For example... I have two case large saddlehorn knives. They both have the same longtail 'c' and are the same color. However one has 1st production run etched in the blade.

Also have a small saddlehorn with 1st run etched in the bolster.

So does this make them more rare than my knives without the 1st run etched?

Well, more rare, yes. Does this mean more valuable? Not necessarily. 1st run etched knives are only ran in a certain number with the etch (100, 200, 500, etc) , but the are the same as the other knives besides the etch. Will some people stray away from the knife due to the etch, sure, because I know I do.

I got a baby doc first run knife at a price lower than normal ones.

It seems to me it's just a gimmick for Case more than anything. Even with a first run knife, you can't determine what number of the first run it is.

It just depends on the person, but overall, I would say no from what I have seen.

Ok thanks! I can understand the gimmick thing your talking about. Makes since. I'm not really concerned about the value necessarily because I do not plan to sell any of my knives. I just thought the 1st run etched was kind if unique because I have never seen it in a retail store which, to me, means not everyone will have one. Kind of boring if u have a collection of knives that u can see in your local feed store if u know what I mean.

you know when the feed store comment, reminds me that the reason i got into collecting was new case knives. That's what I was after at first. But then after hanging out here for awhile I realized there are a ton of old knives that are really cool (sometimes not valuable) but so many different variations and more quality than what is available today on the market in the same price range.

I still like new case knives and new knives, but I think now I've gotten the itch for older knives! But... if you have any newer case Cranberry knives... im looking to buy!
