Not Enough Time

Post by Hukk »

I have been asked a couple times about my lack of time so I thought I'd post it here. Many of you know that I'd had knee surgeries, but there was more than that. ::doh:: ::dang::
I actually had 6 surgeries in 18 months (tired of Dr.'s-you bet). They were all old injuries.
1. Right shoulder had a 1 inch bone spur, torn rotator cuff, 3 other torn muscles I can't pronounce and some tendon shaving (Dr says what do mean this hurt a little, this should hurt like he**).
2. Right forearm had 1 detached muscle and 1 muscle with a dead tendon, all were reattched. (likely from my old amatuer boxing days-I used to hit like a mule in lt heavy and heavyweight). Yeah, that was supposed to hurt too.
3. Right ankle surgery
4. Left ankle surgery.
5. Left knee surgery.
6 Right knee surgery-it's a mess in there what do you mean it didn't hurt? The only thing I felt was that I had to sit down a lot. ::shrug::

So, with all that SSA disability says you can't work any more.
CAN'T, well that just set me off, that word doesn't exist in my vocabulary, I WILL prove them wrong! AND I've been doing it.
I've been going to the gym under the guidance of physical therapy since October and strength and power have returned, (need to be careful there) stamina is coming back and I'll be back at work likely in March, looking out of state. So, daily I have been diligently working toward my goals of going back to work somewhere. I refuse to lay done and accept their assessment. Besides, they can't even figure out how a human being can be working with all those injuries.

During this time my wife had 3 surgeries on her hands. Yeah we have been on a first name basis with the surgery center.

In addition my mother in law has been diagnosed with lung cancer and I set my shop up over there so I can be in contact with her and help as needed. I also take the time to talk with her as she is lonely. She will not live much more than a year-if that. Her lungs are to badly damaged from smoking over 50 years.

So, there you have it, in long form  . I do physical therapy, work on knives and now make sheaths from scratch. I also make sure my mother in law has enough kindling and firewood in the house daily and make sure I spend at least an hour talking with her.
It makes for a long but rewarding day.

DON'T TELL ME CAN'T, I'll work my butt off just to prove them wrong! ::tu:: ::tu::

Hukk I do under stand some of your pain is not physical pain. I too spent a year not working. The WORST year in my short life. It took me 3 days to cut my lawn. Day one just cut the front lawn. Day 2 just to rest up from doing that. Day 3 cut the back lawn. I was like a mad dog. Not fit to be with, just ask my wifie. This is not my way of living or worth living for. I am a doer not a watcher. I am glad to hear you have goals, with out them you can just suffer. I do look at things different now. I am sure you do too. Is hard but we all should do the best we can. Keep the positive attitude. The best part is show those DR.s they never met a man like you. A REAL MAN in my book your just like John Wayne.

Hukk,

Remind me to never make you mad at me now that I know you boxed as a heavyweight at one time..

You need to write down your experiences and share your positive attitude with the world. So many folks give up just when they are about to cross the threshold..

You take care and please share more of those knives and sheaths with us... ::tu:: :)

I know where you are coming from

You know I don't share the same problems you have, but I have my own situation that makes life a bitch. So I can say that you are not alone. We have to do twice as much just to accomplish what others can do easily.

That's why we find what suits us and we learn to adapt. We keep telling the nay sayers to go to hell. We teach others what we can to make sure they know that there's no giving up, and no giving in.

It's tough to deal with life when you just can't do things. I don't think other people understand CAN'T at some times. It's never a matter of don't want to. So I won't worry if sometime I have to wait on my friends to get there. You should make what you have work for you, and Hukk you seem to take that to the extreme.

Keep showing us your example so everyone has someone to emulate when they feel like they've reached the end of the road.

Great attitude fellas ::tu:: ::tu::

Stay strong! I believe everyone has faced adversities of various sorts in life. Some adversities are more prolonged, and some are much harsher. Overcoming these adversities is what strengthens us and reveals what we are made of. I believe this to be true on the individual level as well as societal level.
