A scary sight to behold!!

This is a video of the Dust Storm that went through AZ. last night...it started here in Tucson..this particular vid is of Phoenix.
I remember the first one that I was in...it was also in Phoenix. But in 1987.....I thought it was the end of the World!!
I have seen many since.....but still get the feeling of impending doom.

When I was a kid in the 50's,in the Texas panhandle town of Hereford, we had dirt storms that blew in, every so often. They were plenty scary. My Mother would put wet towels on all of the window sills to try to keep the dust out of rhe house. We had a screened-in front porch and it was my job to sweep it out after the storm. Sometimes the dust would be 2-3" deep. Both of my Sister's were asthmatic and they would normally have attacks. We survived. Sometimes the dust was so bad, it would get as dark as night for an hour or so. You could see them coming. You had a chance to prepare for them. Maybe 30 minutes or so.

Bill you reminded me ....
I watched a documentary on the Dust Bowel...I can't imagine how People ever lived through it. It amazes me of the strength and fortitude that People of that era and part of the Country had.
With the health problems that I have.....I'm lucky to have been born when I was (1965).

that was some storm johnnie...verde valley is still full of dust from that one, you can not see sedona red rocks through all the dust this moring...three days after the storm..
i ran out to the car to close windows...and got a beating from the hail...dust storms with hail? only in arizona...

but....calling it a Haboob...is just pretentious...as is claiming it is the largest dust storm in over a hundred years...we used to have more of them...but then everything was paved over....less dust in motion...( sorry...the local news is beating this haboob bs into the ground.)
