GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
Re: GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
I tend to look at both sides of a situation so here are some thoughts. (thoughts are not always true)
He is making double, I bet the distributors we buy from are too, are they scalpers. Everytime you buy fountain pop you pay way more than double.
Hope he eats the knife, He sold the other one so he gets this one free is that a bad thing?
Make an offer, you know you want it. He read my mind I do want it. I just do not have the jing. Is it wrong to ask for an offer, he will deal thats good right.
Don't we all sell knives and make a profit?
Keeping it from collectors. I am thinking now someone who could not drive to get one will get one. What would it cost to drive or fly from California. Less than his profit. I am sure a collector will buy it and be happy.

Would it be ok with you if he bought them all and sold them for double on eBay? How many knives is it ok for him to scalp before it's not ok?gunsroses wrote:I tend to look at both sides of a situation so here are some thoughts. (thoughts are not always true)

You make it sound like a good thing. Is that because you wanted to do the same thing?

Paul...
That's okay we'll still like you...we all wish we bought it...only cheaper though....and if you haven't already found an Ebony Whaler (check your GEC dealers in stock)
And I don't think Gunsroses meant anything that the rest of us don't wish for...when the time comes we all hope that the collector $$$$ are with us......

Re: GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
So if I was one of the ones that own this knife I would be happy that its value is more than I paid. Which is what I hope for all the knives I collect. I hope that my collection is worth more than double what I paid. And if I sold one for twice what I paid would I be a scalper, if so then I am and are most of us I presume.
Re: GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
I give up!

I told you they were my thoughts on the subject. They might not be what you think is right. Heck they might not be my thoughts next year, but today they are. Sorry if you disagree.

Re: GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
I hardly think the profit margin is double for dealer/distributors selling new production GEC knives.gunsroses wrote:He is making double, I bet the distributors we buy from are too, are they scalpers. .

Re: GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
I'd like to see this one go up for auction...it would give us an idea of "real world" price....

Ya the guy is no different than anyone here we've all sold knives for double the $$ we paid for them at one time or another. I think his comment about you know you want it--might be hurting his listing though

This guy is from Prescott, Arizona.
Maybe GEC shouldn't sell open house knives to people who live in Arizona.
Just kidding you know I had to say something.
I heard on the last day of the show the last knife almost was not sold. It sold very late.
Oh I see the second knife auction was cancled.

For about 1/2 the price of the scrimshaw Whaler's for sale on eBay, I'd rather own this monster....

Re: GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
Whow,
What an awesome knife, for $260 I don't get it. I know its stag but commanding a premium of $100 over the others? I must be missing something here, can anyone explain.

Re: GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
Well it takes a very special piece of stag to cover a wide knife like the whaler. Imagine how thick the antler has to be keep the radius from being too large.
Re: GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
That was my thought. I'd imagine very few will be made.gunsroses wrote:Well it takes a very special piece of stag to cover a wide knife like the whaler. Imagine how thick the antler has to be keep the radius from being too large.
Re: GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
Never thought about folks, certainly makes a lot of sense. I'm sure it will a prized piece

Hey Guys,
Now I see the primitive bone at about the same money, now I'm back to don't get it. I'm starting to fall in love again with my #36 pattern stag sunfish @ $179.00

Re: GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
Well I learned that GEC uses a percentage system on the numbered knives...higher the price bigger the difference...
Hey Earl I won't get in your way on the genuine or the primitive...

When you say bigger the difference, do you mean in the overall quality or statement of the knife? And Earl I also have frowned away from the big dogs.

Re: GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
BH,I think what Bob means by the higher the price bigger the difference is a % is used to determine serialized price, for example purposes only, say 10% on the adv. price for serialized ie; $100 knife/add $10 premium for serialized,$200 knife add $20 premium for serialized. Numbers and % are pure speculation on my part, but a quick look at current serialized stuff its running 9 to 10% of adv. price for serialized version.
Bob & BH I was stoked when I saw PB Whaler available, but at that price point I'm not a player and I guess I'll keep my mouth shut on my claim of a Genuine Stag being released at $350,it would seem its not set'n well with some

Re: GEC OPEN HOUSE 2011
To charge a percentage on a process that is exactly the same is just plain wrong. Doesn't make sense.
