Flea Market Finds This Weekend

I found some nice old relics at the flea market this weekend. A two mantle Coleman lantern, Lakeside axe with beautiful wooden handle, an Ulster Boy Scout Knife, and a Japanese 8 transistor radio. I love this old stuff.

Does anyone collect Coleman lanterns or know how to date them?

very nice finds mike. has thast lantern ever been used? i like the stainless looking bottom.. mine is all green and wel used,, but then again, its over 30 yrs old. still in great shape.. and still in oriiginal box when i finished with it.

Should be some numbers on the bottom.
Last two numbers is the year=--I think

I used to have a lantern like yours that was bought back in the early 50's by my dad.

Not sure when they quit making the chrome/nickel plated tanks but it was quite a ways back like in the 60's or early 70's if I recall correctly.

I'm not sure where it is these days. Haven't seen it in about 25 years now.

The lantern has definitely been used but well taken care of. The logo on the bottom looks old, a sun logo and "The sunlight of the night" but the numbers to date it aren't on this model.

Thanks Paul, I cleaned and sharpened that old Ulster and I think I'll carry it for awhile.

Willie from the pictures I looked at on the second site you posted this lantern is pre 1951. I sent a photo and information to the proprietor of the site to see if he can help date it.

Check this Coleman I found on the site. It's a projector for use by missionaries.

Thanks to Willie I found out about the lantern already.:

"Mike - It is a 220B - later 30's - early 40's. There will be a couple of numbers stamped across from each other in the middle area of the bottom. The digit on the left is the last digit of the year in that period and the number(s) on the right are the month. The bottoms were galvanized after date stamping so the numbers can be hard to find/read."

It looks pretty good for being about 70 years old.

Thanks Scott. I just can't pass those things up, only problem is I think I have an axe and Coleman lantern collection started now. Already had a radio collection.

Thanks Tom. I do pretty well around here and the prices are good. All four items came to just $60. There is a town in Pennsylvania called Adamstown that is nothing but antique shops and flea markets. You can spend days going from one to another.

I found this at a flea market three weeks ago.
It is from the 1940s according to what I found on line.
It fits on the Scout's belt.
