Schrade Sharpfinger in Roosevelt Elk

I like rehandling the Schrade USA made sharpfingers when I can find 'em in decent shape. Here's one I rehandled in Roosevelt Elk to get a feel of what it'll look like on some folders I'm planning on having MM rehandle. I think it came out pretty good for a rank amateur like myself!

Thanks, guys, and especially you, Dale, as you gave me the idea after seeing one that you had done! The 152 is great for this 'cause it has great design, was made in the USA of good carbon steel, and is very easy to rehandle. I had so much fun with this one, I decided to do another!

so? roosevelt elk are only from the west side of interstate 5? how odd...they sure look like the elk in flagstaff?

The Roosevelt elk (Cervus canadensis roosevelti), also known as Olympic elk, is the largest of the four surviving subspecies of elk in North America.[2] They live in the rain forests of the Pacific Northwest and were introduced to Alaska's Afognak and Raspberry islands in 1928.[3][4] The desire to protect the elk was one of the primary driving forces behind the establishment of the Mount Olympus National Monument (later Olympic National Park) in 1909.[5]

Here's a crown section of a Roosevelt's antler. I'm going to send this piece to MM for slabing and rehandling but it gives you an idea of just how large a mature bull can be.

My buddy has a rack in his house from an old bull; the thing is as big around as a small tree at the bases! Unbelievable! I'll have to get a photo of it next time I see him.

thanks FRJ...i read most of that already...i was just being a pest.

the elk in arizona are a wonder to observe...i once tracked one for a week...he must have liked it...cause every morning he was in my campsite...so i began following him around...he'd jump over cats claw, or some other nasty sticker bush..and think i was dumb enough to follow the deer tracks instead of his big ol hoof...followed him all week... until i did around 15 miles one way..and still had to walk back to the truck...

and i wasn't hunting ...just playing with the wildlife...

oh...THAT KNIFE CAME OUT BEAUTIFUL!
