A demo film of the Armstead Snow Motors Company concept snow vehicle - powered by a Fordson tractor and a Chevrolet automobile.

No sound and kind of long but interesting for 1924. I love this old time footage.

Those days were certainly different. No one would wear a suit, hat and tie to do something like that today.

Wonder why it didn't go anywhere, looks like such a good idea.

I love looking at the old photos Jerry. Men and boys wore a hat, coat and tie everywhere they went. I saw a picture of an early professional baseball game and every male in the stands had on a hat and tie.

It looks good to me, add a prop or fan in the back and it's ready for the water.

Good reading Jerry.

It sounds like there are some specialized modern day vehicles using this system. There is one of the originals in a museum. I'd like to take it out for a spin in about 6 feet of snow.

Could this be a clue to the demise of the original snow machine?:

"The Armstead Snow Motor Company put out this product demo in 1924. Little is known about the company or the fate of the product. It is rumoured that Henry Ford bought out the patent and buried the project."

first time i saw that clip i believed the rollers were inflated rubber...or liquid filled rubber...but solid plate steel would be deadly...
and it is really easy to fall off a tractor.

The driver was bashing it around pretty good too. I don't think safety was a big consideration in those days.

Inflated heavy rubber would make for a nice floating water tractor/barge.
