I'm a big Buck knife guy so I've picked up eight or so of the chi-com versions too.

So far mine have been very good quality.

I totally agree. Someone is gonna get hurt with those Chinese knives. I am sticking with Case or Buck. The quality of a Case knife is simply superior to anything else. Plus they are an American icon. There are a few other good American made knives. I think Queen and GEC are good quality too. However, Chinese knives are worth 89 cents a pound at the scrap yard.

And I worry about the quality of the education in today's schools, just saying.

If you don't like them then don't buy them...very simple. But saying their quality is bad is just an opinion and not only does everyone have one they are like the other thing we all have. Fact is they do bring a lot of revenue to this country. Money is made by the Feds thanks to import taxes, the importer gets a cut, the wholesaler, and the distributor each get some befor4e the dealer pockets his share of the sale. The amount leaving the country is actually not that large.

I would happily put many of my Chinese knives up against Case or Buck for both overall quality and and quality of steel used. The AG Russell knives alone pass the quality of the current standard Case and Bucks by leaps and bounds. The only Case knives that come close are the Bose and I can by 3 AG Russell knives for the price of 1 Bose.

Of course if you buy a 4 dollar knife you do get what you pay for tho I would put my Colts up against brands like the US made Old Timers when they were available. People buy the Rough Riders and equivalent and because they are cheap abuse them in ways they would never abuse a Case...so of course they fail...so would a Case knife abused the same way.

I believe a lot of folks have the same problem with Chinese knives that I do. Outside of the Jim Frost and Kevin Pipes Clans, they don't feed too many American Families. The people I've met from W.R. Case & Son's are not only friendly and helpful, they actually seem grateful that you choose to buy their American made product. Case is constantly making product improvments and continues to give good value for your cutlery dollar. Yes, that's just my opinion, cause that's all I've got, but it's based on first hand knowledge and personal experience. I don't really care for glued-on bolters either. Thanks for your time.

These guys are just looking for a fight. ::td:: We now have a chinese factory knife forum on here after many people started posting about china made knives and Bryan saw it necessary to add a place on the forum dedicated for them. People have posted about how they felt the quality was as good as or better than Case. These guys are simply trying to pick a fight with those who disagree with them and their ideals.

Another interesting thing you will notice on this forum is that many people will bash the china knives and say to only buy american but will then turn around and either show off or say how great of quality german made knives are. ::facepalm:: Guess they really don't believe in only buying american...... ::mdm::

This is still the best forum on the internet for knife collectors of all kinds. It has even grown to accept that there are people who like to collect the cheap knive made from china. I think that says a lot about democracy and the american way. As Americans we believe in the freedom of speech....yet bash those who stand against what we say. ::dang::

As has already been mentioned.....we all have an opinion.

Now everyone grow up and start acting like adults instead of little kids fighting in the playground.

P.S...my knife is bigger than your knife! ::tounge::

Great to see you man up Vieu. It takes a strong man to do it. I understand your feelings and respect your opinions more now that you have. Also many of us including myself feel the same way about Case and USA makers as you do. The great thing is you respect others and let them like what they like. Thanks again you did the honorable thing. Nice to see. ::handshake:: ::nod::

Since I've never shown a German Knife here, I'll guess that one wasn't directed at me even though it came after my post. Please!.....Collect what YOU like. You will get controversy though when you compare a $4.00 knife to a $40.00 knife and make statements (done in another thread) that Case blades are made at the Rough Ryder factory and Case fans will tend to get a bit defensive. No one wants any personal battles (at least I hope not), but sometimes the propaganda needs to be pushed back and I totally agree that it should be done without personal attacks or "picking a fight". We're better than that and we all know it. It's just when folks stray from the facts too far, we need to self-correct at times.

I miss having the choices I used to. I just can't seem to get excited about collecting Imperials and Schrades made in China. The same with the new Kabars, Uticas and several others. And no choice at all when it comes to a new model of Camillus knife. This is supposed to be a country based on freedom of choice, but it's slowly but surely becoming a country of buy China made or not at all. That's not a choice, that's an ultimatum. My beef isn't with "made in China", it's in the lack of being able to buy "MADE IN AMERICA"! I feel sorry for the upcoming generations of collectors. What choices will they have?

Our choices are just more limited. However, we have Case, Buck, GEC, Queen and Schatt& Morgan and Robeson, Bear, Kershaw (some), and...
It is not like buying a TV where there is no USA choice.

Yah, I know. I guess i'm just at an age where nostalgia, history and heritage are more important to me then the future. But it's not me that'll see the brunt of today's trends. It's my children and grandchildren. They may actually see their history as being "made in China" and it won't effect them in the least. It'll just be second nature.

I'm not saying to collect or not collect anything. What bothers me is that guys will get on here and clearly state to only buy american when it comes to the chinese knives and then turn right around and collect german made or other countries cutlery and that is deemed as ok. We have a whole bunch of guys on here now who enjoy collecting knives many of which cannot afford even a case knife. So they collect china knives. Some are from the UK and they have a hard time collecting american made due to the cost of shipping. Many other reasons why some collect china made knives. I think it's a real problem when instead of trying to educate these new collectors on the value of collecting knives that will gain in value some people just bash them and tell them they are unamerican by buying chinese made knives and that they are taking food away from american families. Guess what.....Chinese knives bring a lot of money into America's economy in the form of sales taxes, import taxes, business expenses spent by brick and mortar stores who stock them and sell them to the general public, etc.

If you are really concerned about people buying the chinese knives then educate them instead of just bashing them. Then....maybe....we can see some real change. Otherwise all you are doing is adding to the problem.

ELVIS...I am not directing this post at you so don't take offense. I'm directing it to all of us who bash each other for collecting something different then what we collect. I personally collect American and German knives, mostly american. But I will not hesitate to buy a cheap chinese for my edc knife because I abuse a knife and don't want to ruin a nice Case, GEC, etc. because I know I will. Therefore I collect them and abuse the cheap knife.

I also make knives....have for over 20 years. I could take offense at all of you for buying factory made knives instead of handmades....but I know most cannot afford to buy a handmade. So, I don't take offense. I just wish others would look at the reality of some people's situations and realize that not all can even afford an american made knife even though they would like to and let them at least collect what they can without giving them such grief.
This forum used to be better than this. Unfortunately it's turning the other way. It's ALL ABOUT POCKET KNIVES.....not all about American and German pocket knives! ::nod::

Well said Craig. I only have a few new knives, nine to be exact, and they are all U.S.A. made, Case, GEC, Canal Street and a Kershaw. Most of my old knives are German with a few U.S.A. made thrown in. I don't however consider myself a collector but rather an accumulator. I buy what appeals to me. I have bought one Chinese knife, a RR, and I think it is a very well made knife, for the price, in that the fit and finish is really good, it looks nice and it holds an edge as well as any other knife I own. If some folks like the Chinese knives, let them be happy, if others don't like Chinese knives, then let them let others be happy. To each his own.

Hey Craig, Thanks for the explaination and I hear ya. Of course, buy what you can afford and since you are a knifemaker, you know what abuse is. You clearly state that you abuse your knives, so I don't blame you for not investing much in them. My complaint was with the stupid rumors that keep croping up about Case having knives (or parts) made in China. There have been brief periods in the past when they have contracted to have a few short-run models made in Germany, but they go to great lengths to buy American and until they change that practice, I'll continue to try to set the record straight. We can get into the topic of comparing that $4 knife to a $40 knife, but I'm going to take a nap for now. :D

One of the nicest knives I own was made in China. It was handmade by Master Chen Rong Liang, founder of Zubeng Forge. http://www.zubengforge.com/aboutus.html
I met Chen at a Blade Show in Atlanta a couple years ago. He was staying in the same hotel as a bunch of us AAPK members. Super nice guy and extremely dedicated to the quality of his handmade knives. Here's one of his hunting knives:

http://www.zubengforge.com/images/Hunting%20Knives.jpg

I understand the sentiments against factory China knives, and against the Chinese communist political system of government especially. I consistently try to avoid mass-produced Chinese products. Even so, blanket statements that all Chinese-made knives are of poor quality are simply untrue.

BTW, I have seen Case knives from the '80s on that are in my opinion low quality. Just sayin'.

i wouldn't take china or their products, if they surrendered in mass.
an i know i will touch or use chinese made products without my knowledge...but...they can kiss my glow in the dark bottom.
