Here's a Western Slender Clasp Knife, amber bone handles. Tang stamp is Western, over Boulder, Colo.. But I can't see if U.S.A. is underneath. Price and Zalesky's book say's that if it is accompanied with a sheath, ( which it is ) that dates it to 1928 - 1931. If I could see further down the tang stamp and there was U.S.A. that would date it to the early 50's. It came out of an elk pack that belonged to the fellow whose estate was being sold. But for the $5.00 I gave for it, it doesn't really matter which of those 2 time frames it came from. I need to get it on a buffing wheel and try to take as much of the grinder marks off the blades that I can. When I got home with it I put it to my stone and both blades took a nice edge with very little effort. I really love those old classic knives. His son told me that it only gutted and skinned a couple of bull elk that he recalled, but many, many blacktail and mule deer. Dale H. ( Bull )

Thank you for the comments. It has had a lot of wear. I used a small amount of Mothers wheel cleaner on it. It took the dirty grim off. I hope that was OK. I think it looks better. In the Marines we used CLP (cleaning lubricant and protectant) on our M16's. I was wondering if any of the AAPK guys ever used that? I like to keep the aged look, but I don't want it coverd with grease and dirt either.

Remington gun oil smells pretty much the same as CLP so it must be pretty close. It just doesn't get cludy so it's missing at least one ingrediant.

I really like that knife Dale did for you gino. That jigged bone is awesome. Do you know what it's called?

The bone I used on Gino's knife is ivory colored, with a corncob jigging pattern.

I have been looking for a 3" Yellow GEC for a small group I am working on. I was holding
out for a Northfield.........................and this was listed the other day!!

97223 is the Zip Code for Tigard Oregon and also part of Portland.
Gerber is located on 72nd Ave in Tigard. I think the line between Tigard & Portland is right close there. Gerber may be in Portland. I used to work about ¼ mile South of Gerber on 72nd & we were in Tigard.
97223 is the Zip Code, not the model number. Confusing isn’t it?

You nailed it!
They were made in the 70s & 80s.

The first Gerber Folding Sportsman (Gino’s knife) was introduced in 1972 & was made in Germany. Later production was moved to the Gerber plant in Tigard. There were three models, FSI, FSII & FSIII. They were introduced at different times, but I think all had been discontinued by the 1990s.
