When Your Bandsaw Blade leaves the nest

Post by Hukk »

Well, about 5 days ago now, I was resawing some lumber on my bandsaw and the blade decided it was to old, spot weld gave out. I've seen much worse, but my wife decided I should have gone to the hospital for stitches. (that's what those earplugs are for) Bah, I had stuff to do, after a couple minutes of intense cussin  Well, it did bleed a lot, til I taped it up, no bandaids in the shop. Duct tape and a piece of old t-shirt worked good enough. ::huff::
So, this is what it looks like when that 6 tooth Raker comes flying out of there and only hits your thumb. I guess I was lucky, it could have been worse. Dang, it's only bandaid deep, just tape it up and keep workin. ::dang:: ::dang:: ::smack:: ::smack::

OOPS Hukk it looks like s tinty shark bit but I know you can't go diving yet, but I am like you when it comes to Dr.'s.

Can you send me a pair of those ear-plugs?..I understand.
I have duck tape. Works good too but I redress it every day. If the glue sticks just use gasoline to wash it off. I do not know of any germs that is caried by gasoline.

Hukk,
I understand the duct tape & have used it myself. IMO, stitches just prolong the agony. Then you are supposed to go back to the doctor in a few days & have the stitches removed. More prolonging of the agony, not mention lost shop time. If I have to have stitches, I usually take them out myself, (but I leave the surgical staples for the doctor).

Here is my solution to the duct tape/band-aids issue. Obviously someone had thought this out.
See picture.

BTW, I just bought a roll of Gorilla Tape. I think it would be good for holding a cut together, if you can get the tape off later!

Interesting idea, since I moved my shop out to my mother in laws to help her out (terminal lung cancer), I have been thinking about having a first aid kit as any shop should have ::dang:: To late.
It was actually worse than I made it out to be, by the time I got to the hose, blood was already running off my elbow. I do the same with stitches and removed my staples from my elbow, I saw the tool that my back surgeon (may he rest in peace, I have had no problems with it since 1991) used to remove staples on my back, just like a miniture pair of dykes. Removed a couple casts, one on my left foot, I just used my circular saw, cut set REAL shallow. ::paranoid::

No wonder my wife gives me those strange looks    .

I can't remember how many casts I have taken off. The fiberglass they use now days is harder to take off than the plaster was. I had my arm in a cast in Vietnam, but they used plaster then. It was so humid that they wouldn't last for more than 2 days. I would take them off, wash my arm then walk to sick bay & tell the Corpsman, "Hey Doc, I need a new cast." It got to be routine. I have had 11 or so surgeries on my left wrist, so I have wracked up a lot of cast time, last time I counted I had had my left arm in a cast for a total of about 2.75 years. I hate them things.
