Not Quite Done

I got these great pieces of Claro Walnut from Calico Hardwoods nearby. The knife scales came from high end gunstock blanks, these are the cut-offs, the part they throw away. Well I snagged some up and brought them home. I would have to say that these are the niceset pieces I found so far. I purchased the blade and bought some walnut dowel to use as pins.
This is the natural color of the scale, actually this is Claro Walnut Burl and has some of the nicest pattern I've seen with this wood. Still a little clean up and then buff the blade a little and make a sheath, at least when my thumb heals up. I left the tape on because the blade has a mirror polish, can't make out the wood because of the metal being so shiny.

That's a beautiful piece of wood my friend..Claro Walnut Burl..!! I have never encountered that before, it sure does look good on that handle..

Thanks guys, I forgot to mention that I used Garesol that Jeff mentioned in another post. I put the Garesol on over the weekend and buffed it out. I used acetone to remove some buffing residue. OOPS, I saw that immediately the finish was now dull, so I redid it. I could not find the chemical contents on the can. Well, not very compatible with acetone.

You're welcome, we just called them black walnut. I never knew until I went and got some wood. I also got to see some $1000.00 gunstock blanks, WOW!
