Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
Nice. I don't think that is bone though. It is a high quality plastic that is very much like bone. I have a couple with scales like that as well but not made by Camillus.
I measure my collection by the ton.

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
Thanks Gino and Mark.
Iron Hoarder The handles are bone. Just to be sure, I looked with a 20X lens. The pores (haversian canals) are very visable and the bottoms of the jigging show tool marks. I will try to get a good picture of the handles and post them.
The bone looks German to me. the knife imo has not been apart. the small blades still have most of thier original finish and do not look to have been sharpened. This is the freshest Camillus 4 line that I own, so it might just seem different to me due to little or no wear on the handles.

I'll have to take a closer look at a couple then. They maybe something better than I thought they were.

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
Nice knife! You paid $15 for it? Want to double your money?
I like it! It looks like Rogers bone that has not been carried in a pocket.
Carry that in your pocket of 20 or 30 years and I bet it looks like the other Rogers bone you see on the old knives. The bone will wear down and the color will lighten up considerably.
Please let me know if you decide to sell it.

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
Some more pictures, but not very good ones.
The bone is too dark to show the pores.
Thanks for the offer Dale, but I don't as a rule sell whittlers. Your idea about the lack of pocket wear makes sense. Thanks

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
Went deer hunting yesterday with one of my old ARNG buddies. He had mentioned several weeks ago that his brother had a Buck knife that he had never used, that he didn't want it for himself, and that his brother wanted to sell it for $25.00 - I told him to bring it to me. He brought it yesterday, so this is my latest addition.

You got a great deal on a great knife Old Hunter. Those Buck fixed blades are hard to beat.
Fallah I too like your stockman. Are you starting to collect straight razors as well ?

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
Phil, yes I am pretty happy with the deal, the 102 is nearly new. I am on a Buck roll right now, another buddy called me this morning from the Fayetteville NC Gun & Knife show; he had found a NIB Buck 317, knew I wanted one and what my price range was, and bought it for me. I get to pick it up next week (and pay him back and buy his lunch!!). Where would we be without good buddies?

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
Was late stirrin' this morning and didn't get to the estate sale till it had all ready been open for an hour by the time I arrived
. This particular seller usually has the valuable jewelery and such show cased where you make payments. I was surprised to find the knife still there in the showcase as well as a nice obsinian drilling piece beside it
, so dang, I just bought them both. It's an older Gerber lockback, brass front bolsters only, and not to sure what wood handles are. Folded up, it is 3 3/4 inches, blade length is 2 1/2 inches long.
Looked at a lot of others on the computer, and folks were identifying the model as 97223, but that's the zip code of their Portland Oregon location. The flip side just has GERBER stamped in the tang. So If any of you good folks know the particular model, I sure would appreciate if you would share it with me
. Thanks for your time,
Dale

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
Nice find dale, I dig those older Gerbers. I think either Dale (Orvet) or Jerry knows a bit about those Gerbers. Last time I came across one simular to yours I posted the tang # and like you said I guess its the area code but one of them got it for me.

Trevor, thats sweeeeet!
I found this green Imperial scout today at the FM. I never saw this color scout before.
I also found this KAYLAN , I never heard of it before and Goins has it 1948-1949. kaylan Knife Co. was only around those 2 years.

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
I had not seen these until Jerry posted one in another thread.
This one does not have very fancy bolsters, but its handled in Mammoth Ivory.
It is made by Hiroaki Ohta.
