Some recent art and some not-so-recent...........

Thought I'd post up a couple of things I did recently.

First is a 4ft.x 6ft. metal sign with a painting of a vintage gas and air pump and light on it.Originally I just did the gas pump and then the customer wanted more.I told him it would be too crowded but he insisted and so it was done.Can't say I'm happy with the end result but the money was good.
Next are several signs I've done using recycled materials.Two of them were oak kitchen cabinet doors purchased at a yard sale for $2 apiece(I bought a dozen of them).
The first is a sign I was going to hang outside my shop but decided not to as I'm operating in a residential zone.The pinstriping brush I made from a 1" wooden dowel;a pine wedge;and electrical wire. Handle was hand filed using body shop files and sandpaper. The can was an old one of lettering enamel that I cut in half and affixed to the sign using a bolt epoxied to the inside of the can and going thru the back.
The second one is a clock I made to indicate the time of the next auction at the charity events we host.Again the hand is a pinstriping brush made up.It also has a hand-made stand built in.
The other signs are pieces of shelving from an old entertainment stand.

If I ever get back to the US and put the 1957 Chevrolet that I've had sitting in dad's garage in pieces for 20 years back together I think I'll bring it by your place.

Thanks for the kind words guys.I really enjoy painting and the financial rewards aren't too bad either.
Here is today's project.The boat is a 22 ft.Eliminator made entirely of Kevlar and powered by a 425hp 502 cubic inch Chevrolet marine engine.This particular boat was featured at the 1995 Chicago Boat Show and had all the lettering hand painted on rather than the usual vinyl decals.
The owner purchased it a couple years ago and runs it regularly in the summer on Wampler's Lake in Brooklyn Michigan. He has had it running upwards of 90 mph and says it is rock steady in the water.He has owned several hydroplane racers in the past judging from all the pictures on his shop walls.
Last year he noticed that the gel coat was oxidizing a bit and buffed out the whole boat;removing some of the lettering in the process. He contracted with me to restore the lettering to as close to original as possible.
Anyway it was fun painting the boat and talking with him about everything in general.One great story was about his twin sons;both of whom are executives with Ford who awhile back restored their grandfather's two tractors and drove them across the country from Michigan to San Francisco to raise money for the Heart Fund.One of the greatest pictures he has is a rear shot of his sons sitting on the tractors parked hub deep in the Pacific Ocean! They drove all the way at an average speed of 14 mph! They had to trailer them through the mountains in Colorado for a bit because they would have impeded traffic.
Anyway sorry for the rant;here are the pics of the boat.
