Schrade with no #

I have a trapper with stainless blades and wood handles. No marking on handles and only Schrade + U.S.A LTD. stamped on blade. Anyone know anything about this?

Hi, welcome to AAPK.
You probably have a special edition knife or a special edition knife that was not etched.
It is impossible to tell without seeing some pictures.
Post some pictures and we can probably tell you what you have.

I bought the same knife off Ebay not long back - least by the description it sounds like the same knife. I haven't been able to identify it in the old Schrade catalogues. There are a couple of patterns that come close but not quite. The Tang Stamp dosen't match any I've seen documented either. Closest I can come up with is the mark from 1973 on but instead of the model no. Schrade put LTD.
Beautiful knife though.

That pattern is a newer 296 pattern. It came with wooden, bone (Tennessee River Trapper), and yellow delrin handles, maybe others. Nice big trapper. A characteristic to recognize this larger trapper is the point in the handles, about mid point next to the liners. It usually had nice hollow ground blades usually. The pattern was used for several SFO offerings.

Thanks hawk - that bit of information, and a little bit of net slogging has led me on a merry chase. Apparantly the knife is a Schrade 296WC, Birch Handles (Crimson Birch), Trapper. It seems that it may have been sold only by Walmart in the early 2000's - at least the only people (I have found) that purchased them bought them from Walmart and no one else has seen them (saw them) for sale anywhere else.

Yes Bootclad, it was a Walmart exclusive to my understanding.
