Hard to evaluate the mind set of the Arabs. They just don't think the same way we do.

The Arabs (and American politicians) put me in the mind of a door to door salesman. Just keeps jackin' his jaws and inchin' in a little bit at a time and before you know it the rascals in your house.

I think you're right Rod, our only hope will be that the citizenry of Iran would rather live the decrepid life they lead than die. One thing in our favor is that I'm sure that Iran is for sure that they could never win a war at sea with the U.S. We do need to do something about their nuclear program. They are just ignorant enough to use it.

I think you're right Rod, our only hope will be that the citizenry of Iran would rather live the decrepid life they lead than die. My cousin's husband is a Persian from Iran. He and his friends are some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. And that's all I know about it.

I have a brother in law who was born and raised in Iran and still has a lot of family there. From my conversations with him I've learned that many of the citizens of Iran are not in support of the current regeme in power. They were exposed to and adopted a lot of our modern day western culture in years past under less repressive leadership. They have been forced to adopt a lifestyle that is not what they want and not what they were raised in. (Imagine if we suddenly had to revert to living like our great great grandparents did, just how foreign and unpleasant that would be for most of us).
I personally think it is vitally important for us to not allow Iran to continue developing their nuclear capabilities. I seriously doubt that Israel is going to allow that to happen, and will strike and destroy their nuclear facilities with or without the blessing of the current unfriendly Obama administration. Who could blame them in light of the theats Iran has made toward them?
As for Iran blocking the straits, they are playing a game that they definately cannot win. Not only would they be cutting off a major part of the oil flowing from he region, they'd be cutting off a major flow of money coming into the region and I don't think their oil exporting neighbors would support their actions. I think the threats are more political posturing than they are real. If Iran did attempt to cut off the tanker traffic, it would be only a few days before they would not have a navy or air force any longer, assuming Obama would listen to his military advisors. Of course there's no guarantee he woud do so.
I hope the rhetoric dies down and tensions can be eased without more bloodshed. There's been enough of that to do for quite a while.

I have no doubt the majority of Iranian people are good people.
I should have said "Ahmadenijad" instead of "Iran"
And I agree, no-one wants any more bloodshed.
