For the Computer Illiterate...

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

For the Computer Illiterate...

Post by Joe Dirt »

I've been thinking of this topic for a while now.

We all could use a little help at times in using these new fangled electric typewriters.
I think it best to use as much "layman's" terms as possible in this thread.

Here's a spot where we can share and lend a helping hand for those in need of what are grandchildren take for granted.

First up I am posting a link to the computer dictionary. This will tell you what all those initials and abbreviations stand for; eg: http:, and what about: ".com" ??? (for what it's worth). Give it a shot!

The following is an easy way for those of us that are a little hard of seeing to enlarge type and images.

Hold down the CTRL key at the bottom right side of your keyboard. Next while holding down the CTRL button, press the " + " button located at the top right of the keyboard next to the backspace button.
This will enlarge the screen image. Press the " + " several times and the image will increase with each time the button is pressed.

Next hold down the CTRL button and press the " - " button located next to the " + " button you just used. This will decrease the size of the screen image.

You WILL need to decrease the size of the screen image back to it's origional dimension because the computer WON'T automatically return to the default size of the display.

This IS VERY USEFUL when looking at pictures of knives on our site AND pictures on eBay!!

Please contribute what you can to this topic as there are many things, simple things, that many of us are unaware of. ::nod::

Joe, I think the politically correct term in these softer, kinder, days is computer challenged. :)

Good idea.

Do you know what version of I.E. introduced that feature? I'm running I.E.-8 and have been using the magnification feature in the system tray. This will occasionally come in handy.

Shortcuts:
•Windows Logo key + the 'e' key - brings up Windows Explorer
•Windows Logo key + the 'm' key - minimizes all open windows to the task bar
•Windows Logo key + the 'r' key - brings up the Run task
•Windows Logo key + the 'f' key - brings up the Find task

Ctrl + the 'c' key - copies what you have highlighted to the clipboard
Ctrl + the 'v' key - pastes what is in the clipboard to the field the cursor is pointing to
