High Mileage

My truck at work just turned over 400,000 miles. I drove this one for many years but got a newer one in November. I had to use it as a spare while mine was having some work done and it turned over 400K while I was behind the wheel.

Anybody else driving any high mileage vehicles?

OK Dog now we're in the right place. Mine is a ways behind yours but just might catch up some day. '97 B2300 Mazda pickup, 237,000 miles. The little four cylinder just won't quit. I admit I'm particular about the maintenance (can't do anything myself but have a good shop). The Mazda is the same vehicle as a Ford Ranger, just a different badge, and it's easy to see why Rangers were the most popular vehicles in America for years. Here's a shot of the old girl a few years back when I took a camping tour through Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

This is my 1992 Toyota 1 ton with 255k. Still running great. Hope to hit 500k someday.

Cool, keep 'em going. I always wondered what it was like in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland Trail. How did you like it? Any other pictures?

my 1988 ford f250 4x4 superduty had the straight six,[believe it or not]. i sold it in 2000 with 210k miles on it, only reason i got rid of it was that it was rusting apart in front of my eyes. i used to do a lot of travelling back and forth to jobs then and i couldn't trust the thing staying together as i went another mile. heck mike, i did work in your neck of the woods and further west, lock haven and beyond.
the truck is still running today. the guy did extensive body work to it, but still the original motor.

mike, i noticed the frieghtliner plate next to your odometer.. is that a semi? my bro drove semis for 35 yrs, some would go 500k and more miles before he got a new one. heck they are just breaking in at 200k.

I drove for a bit over thirty years. Put 1.2M on a 77KW in 7 years before we did an in-frame major overhaul on it. Ran it the last 100K with a cracked piston. IF the piston hadn't cracked I bet it would have gone 2M miles. The engine was a 1693TA Caterpillar. It was hot rodded and putting 500HP to the ground.It was only supposed to put 425HP to the flywheel. That old truck would snort. Had a 6 speed main box and 4 speed auxiliary (24 forward gears and 4 reverses) with overdrives in both boxes. Had double underdrives as well. You could put both sticks in low and you had to mark an X on the ground to make sure it was moving. It would pull the world if you could have gotten a hook on it. Hauled a lot of cattle and took a lot of road dope to keep that thing moving. It was geared out around 120MPH with both of the sticks up against the dash board.

It's like a big step van Chet, what they call a WD 700 with 700 cubic feet of cargo space. Did you ever work around Muncy? If you went beyond Lock Haven you were in God's Country. Did you ever work up on 120 as far as Renovo? That's where my family is from and that's about the end of the line. A lot of gas drilling up there these days.

Willie, what a beast! Was that the rig that pulled the oversized stuff in some of your pictures? Willie's been in this area before too, I know because he told me how much he loves to travel I 80. A sweet piece of road from border to border.

mike i did a few jobs in muncy and 1 or 2 in renovo, plenty in williamsport. been down that way many times. i was a subcontarctor for 10 years with a redevelopment outfit. i didn't want to do anything but kitchens and baths and windows and doors. thats where the big and fast bucks were. sometimes i would just do windows and doors for months on end, 3 or 4 different homes per week, all over the place. so many that i can't remember them by name or place. i figure over the 10 year span, i was working in some form a another in 1000 homes or more. before i was with them i was self employed, basically doing the same work. but i liked it when i was with them. i didn't have to run and do job estimates or wheel and deal with clients or worry about materials for the jobs, everything was set up with salesmen and job setup crews. made tons o money in those days, 7 days a week. i had to force myself to take time off. what was even more of a trill was that my son was my second hand man. now he runs his own business. i believe he is much more better than me.......

How about low milage? Here's my F-150 when it was new back in 2004. I work from home, so she lives in the garage and doesn't get driven much....she currently has 22,000 miles on her....or an average of 2,750 a year.

We generally take the wife's Tahoe when we go on trips....her Tahoe is a 2002 with 122,000 miles on it....or 12,200 miles a year average.

Nice Unk. I 80 ends in downtown San Francisco Chet. I wouldn't mind driving it all the way sometime.

i stand corrected mike, denver is i-70, i meant salt lake city. but i stand corrected on that anyways. i always thought i-80 ended short of cross country. oh well, won't be the first or last time i'm wrong.
