Well;I guess I'm gonna be here for awhile after all.........

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Well;I guess I'm gonna be here for awhile after all.........

Post by knife7knut »

Didn't want to post this until I found out for sure but yesterday I had my appointment with the heart specialist to hear the results of the many tests I've had to endure over the past several weeks. And the news was good but with conditions.

Some time back I had what I thought was a pulled chest muscle. It happened while I was in my recliner. I stretched and apparently pulled a muscle in my chest. The paint was pretty intense and didn't seem to want to go away. Over the space of a week or so it got worse and finally to the point where it hurt when I breathed or changed positions.

I finally decided one night(the day before my birthday) to check into the hospital and they shipped me almost immediately to St. Joseph's in Ann Arbor MI. They have a tremendous cardiac care unit(affiliated with University of Michigan) and I spent two days there going through a HUGE number of tests. I think they took enough blood out of me that I was a "Quart low"

Anyway a long story short: the results showed that I have a 50-70% blockage in a minor artery that luckily is not calcified;meaning it can be relieved by medication, exercise, and(gasp)loss of weight! The rest of my heart is great;my cholesterol is responding well to drugs and the pain has pretty much subsided.

It was found that I had actually strained the lining around the heart which when damaged can pretty much simulate a heart attack. The bad part is it takes some time to heal and I have to take it easy lifting stuff for awhile.

So I guess you'll have to put up with my ranting and raving for awhile yet. Thanks for listening.

Great news! Glad to hear you are going to be ok!
But I think you should have someone else lift all your heavy knives for a while.
In fact, they can box them up and send them to me for safe keeping, so you are not tempted to over do it!
I promise I will take real good care of them. ::nod::

knife7knut,
It is good to know you will be OK if you take it easy. Do not give your knives away yet. ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::
You can always play with small knives. Dale you have your own knives (and one of mine) to play with… Ken

Ray

Now that was funny! But, careful not to get your heart rate up too much. 8)

Anyway, sounds like you caught a problem before it got worse. I never caught mine until it was too late to do it the easy way.(and I got the scar to prove it) I'm glad to hear you'll be able to treat it with meds and exercise. You'll probably have to cut alot of sodium out of your diet. That's the part I hated the most. At first, food tasted so bland, but there are healthy ways to flavor your food. The added benefit was that our whole family eats healthier now.

Good luck with everything!

There goes Ray, once again interjecting sex into an AAPK thread.

Sounds like you had a bad case of pericarditis. Glad it wasn't anything more serious, although that probably felt more serious than you care to experience.

Now, now, Charlie. My comment had nothing to do with sex. It was merely intended as a cautionary note to an ailing member. Where IS your mind?? :D :D

Good to hear, knife7knut! ::tu::

I bruised a rib one time skiing and that was terrible. It hurt to laugh, sneeze or take a deep breath for a couple weeks. I can only imagine how much a broken rib hurts.

Thanks for all the kind words guys;it means a lot. Broken ribs are no fun at all.I broke several in a head-on crash about 40 years ago and they took forever to heal. They still make themselves known on occasions when I press against them the wrong way.

About the only things I've found worse are: 1) kidney stones and; 2) a torn rotator cuff. Oh yes; and a bulging disc in your back. The first one of those I had felt like a charley horse in my thigh for about 3 WEEKS! No amount of pain killers(Demerol included) would ease the pain. Finally had surgery done and it was all down hill from there.

But; looking on the bright side: When I open my eyes in the morning and I can still stand up;take nourishment;know the difference between the meat and the potatoes;and remember my name(occasionally)I know it is going to be a good day.
