The first Schrade LOVELESS Knives.

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

I do not know why the D'holders, Lake & Walker or Loveless knives DO NOT generate much interest. ::td:: ::td:: ::td::
I belive they are some of the best finished knives to come out of the Schrade factory. ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::

Ken,
I think the reason you don’t see a lot of interest in these knives is several fold;

1-They are not older traditional patterns. Many people in this country who collect Schrade's do so because they remind them of the knives used by their fathers and grandfathers, or knives that they themselves used when boys. They are not as excited about the newer patterns because they are not traditional. It is a traditional look and feel of the Old Timers and the carbon steel that attract many collectors to the Schrade brand.

2-These knives were considerably more expensive than the traditional Schrade knives and I think the price puts a lot of people off. Some collectors may be attracted to collecting Schrade's because they are generally not as expensive as many other brands.

3-There far more people who read these threads then comment on them. This thread has been viewed 159 times, yet only two people have commented on it, counting yourself. At that rate only about 1 in 80 people who reads the thread have commented on it. Now that I have made a post to this thread, it drops the ratio to about 1 in 53 people who have read this thread and made a post to it.

The interesting thing about collecting is that no two people get excited about exactly the same things. Certainly there are general categories of interest that have broad appeal, but there are many times when I have posted a topic or a knife that I thought was very exciting and only had a very true responses. But when I looked at that forum topic list I could see the topic had been viewed hundreds of times but only a handful of people felt they had something to contribute. Don't take it personal, sometimes people don't comment because they don't have a knife like that, don't know anything about the knife or they don't comment because they feel you have said it better than they could.

BTW, nice looking knives you have here.
I love those blue jig bone handles. ::drool:: ::drool:: ::drool::
That is awesome! ::tu:: ::tu::

Thanks for the reply Dale, I appreciate the effort you always put into your answers. ::tu::
I collect Schrade knives because I have been using them for 40+years, my son and even my father-in-law use Schrade knives.
However, I find the quality and finish of the Schrade collaboration knives brilliant.
I also find the price of the collaboration knives low, when you look at their original sale price. Ken
