Well, I sent the Garand off last week to this guy to get a new old stock barrel put on and to have it re-parkerized:

http://shuffsparkerizing.com/

He said it went out in the mail yesterday, and that I should get it Saturday or Monday. I also ordered a can of ammo from the CMP, and bought some Tung oil to go over the stock.

Will post some pics when I get it.

Can't wait to shoot it!! I had rotator cuff surgery on the shoulder on Jan. 5th....arm is still weak, but getting stronger every day. Hopefully I can hold the rifle up.

Glad to hear the Case was able to help out. 8)
I don't own a one.... yet.

We use 22. cal rifles here on the farm, but we hunt squirrel, rabbit and groundhog quite a bit. Those pellet guns are fun though. ::tu::

Check this out;

Now you can dress your knife to match your favorite 1911. Looks pretty sweet but might be a little large for EDC. I would post some pictures but their site has them locked or something. ::shrug::

I got the Garand back from Shuff's. Took him less than a week. It now has a NOS Springfield barrel (1952) and I had him do a trigger job and re-parkerize it. I still need to put some Linseed oil on it.

Now if my CMP ammo would just get here...........

Congrats, Unk! Wish you were local--I've still got a couple cans of match ammo from years ago . . .

(And yes, I could probably even find it. Might take me a day or two, but I could find it.)
Quality should not be an accident. So what is the explanation for some of the knives we've seen in the past few years? (from A Knifebuyer's Manifesto)

Thanks guys.

Coffecup, you might want to hang on to that ammo - Garand food is getting a little hard to come by. The CMP is sold out of most of theirs except for the 200 rd cans of Greek surplus loose ammo.

The bayonet is the Korean era M5 - 8 inches - the short one. The CMP has some WWII ones - the 10 inch for $65 , and some of the older WWI and WWII 16 inch ones for $150-$250. Savin' up my money.....

I've always wanted a Garand. The price was always a bit steep for me to get a nice one though. When they came out with the reproductions I could finally afford one but by then I knew I was leaving. I'm glad to see you've taken the time and effort to restore one. I've seen so many that have just been wrecked.

Looks good Unk!!

Nuttin wrong with that Greek ammo. I burned a BUNCH of it through my 1903 back in the 80's when it was REALLY cheap.

I've got 2 cans of M-1 ammo, Lake Cities 1967, enbloc, in bandoleers, just waiting for the zombie invasion. ;)

Hey, thanks Wille. Can't wait to get this thing out to the range.

We just got home tonight from your neck of the woods. We spent a few days of spring break up in Foat Wuth with my parents around the Keller/ Fossil Creek area. It's always good to get back Fort Worth....I miss it, and my extended family up there.
