I have, what appears to be, a CASE XX era "99" pattern with worm groove rough black handles. It does NOT have a pattern number stamped, but I understand from reading Steve Pfeiffer's Book "Collecting Case Knivesthat not all XX era knives had pattern stamps. Off greater concern to me is the LOA closed. In Mr. Pfeiffer's book, I find reference to the 99 patterns as having an LOA Closed of 4 1/8".
The example I have is only 3 3/4" LOA closed. Does any one know if this could be a legitimate variation - or have I just got an otherwise very good Fake.(?)
Thanks very much for any help,
Pete

What you have is a legitimate #6231 made from 1940 - 1949 .
