Novelty Remington's

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

Novelty Remington's

Post by RandyFew »

Remington along with other companys, produced a ton of novelty knives. There are nehi, airplanes, ships and legs just to name a few. It seems that 99% of these found today are fakes/reproductions that are being past off as vintage. Is there a definitive guide out there to help spot the fakes? ::shrug::

There was an excellent article in Knife World about the Remington Nehi knives. Plenty of pictures and what to look at when determining whether real or reproduction. I'll check tomorrow and see what issue it was in.

I don't think Remington ever made airplane or ship novelty knives. If the handle is brass it is probably a fantasy knife.

I just recently aquired a Remington Leg knife handled in green swirl Pyremite, I'll post picture as soon as I can.
