Uncle Henrys pre 1973

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Uncle Henrys pre 1973

Post by Bootclad »

Has anyone got a pre 1973 Uncle Henry.
I'm wondering if the SCHRADE WALDEN Tang Stamp was used on those.

Yes...I have a couple 897UH that are Waldens. I think I have a 127UH that is a Walden also.

This link should be "hot" to the 1972 catalog. You will see that Uncle Henry 171, 172, 127, 227, 285, 897, and 885 knives were sold with Schrade Walden tang stamps. Although mid 1973 was the approximate cutoff date for the company changes and resultant tang stamps, many do not realize that they actually moved from Walden to Ellenville in 1958!

Thanks guys - that's great info - and with pictures too. Some beautiful mint SW UHs with packaging, I can only dream.
P.S. The 885UH is my preferred EDC.
