If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Garddog, that looks like a sweet old Luger. Nice it's a family gun, too. I have a pre-war Walther PP in .32....I need to get some pictures of it.

In the meantime, here is my Romanian AK (SAR-1). I bought a UTG quick release side mount this week, and a little red-dot scope to go on it.

Unk - Love that rattle-trap AK

BTW, I have a chair that's very similar to yours. I took it to Antiques Road Show a few years ago when it was in Madison WI. One of the Keno brothers (I think it was Leslie) told me it was probably 1920's and worth less than what my ex-wife and her antiques genius mother paid for it 30 years ago.

Hi Jerry, thanks

The wife and I watch Antiques Roadshow quite a bit....I like old stuff - guess that's what drew me into the vintage pocketknives.

I bet your chair is worth more than both of mine put together. We picked these chairs up a few years ago at Sam's Warehouse (so they aren't antiques). The company I work for kicked us all (or most of us) out of the office several years ago. As we were setting up my home office - we were looking for a couple of leather wingbacks, but we stumbled over these and figured they would do (read cheaper).

Oh, I don't think so. He said it is not 1850's as the ex and her mother thought but a reproduction from somewhere around 1920. Value less than $200. I was a little disappointed but was amused that the ex and her mother don't know nearly as much about antiques as they think they do. The chair is very comfortable so I had it reupholstered several years ago and I love it.

Here is the finished M1 Garand (SA) project. I installed an Ultimak front rail - it replaces the front hand guard with no permanant changes - just pop off the hand guard, and the Ultimak rail mounts around the barrel with a couple of brackets - so I can return it to original config. in about 10 minutes. Seems very sturdy. I topped it off with Leupold IER Scout scope and their quick-release rings. The Scout scope has long eye relief, and is set up to be mounted in front of the receiver.

I'm taking this one hog hunting in a couple of weeks.

Love that Garand!!! ::tu:: Wish now I'd gone ahead and dropped $1200 on a new one before I left just so I could have it when I come back. These heathen deactivate guns and then collect them. ::teary_eyes::

It's not too late Iron! You can still get them through the CMP for around $600 (field grade).
They'll be waiting on you when you get back. ::tu::

Thanks guys.

Ranger - I'm kinda old school, too. I wasn't too keen on putting a scope on it, either....but then my buddy invited me hog hunting, and a lot of the activity is at night or early morning (low-light). Without a scope, you aren't likely to get a shot (especially with my 50 yr old eyes). I wouldn't dream of drilling a hole in the Garand or permanently altering it - it's a pre-war serial number - it dates to April 1941.....I'm kinda' proud of the Garand - it actually hangs on the wall in my office. I was very close to a cousin (now deceased) who fought in WWII. I traveled to Germany with him in 2002 to visit the places where he fought, and the cemeteries where some of his buddies are buried. To say the M1 Garand has a special place in my heart is an understatement. Attached are some pics I took at Henri-Chappell American Cemetery in Belgium.

Thanks Johnnie,

I think Hitler shot himself with a PPK (which is what James Bond carried, too). Mine is a PP, which is a little bigger than the PPK. The PP was "Police Pistol", and the PPK was the "Police Pistol - Kompact"...same gun, just shorter barrel and grip....at least I think I got that right.

It's a very sweet shooting little pistol........here's mine:

Oops - I made a mistake...my first one!! ::facepalm:: ....the "K" in PPK does not stand for "Kompact".....

"Completely known as the Polizeipistole Kriminalmodell, it is otherwise dubbed as the common police pistol, or detective pistol. It is called as such because its size makes it more suited for undercover operations, because it can be hidden better under one’s plain clothing. It is smaller than the PP pistol, and its grip is short as well. With this, its magazine capacity is somehow decreased."

I was real lucky on Antiques Roadshow when they came to Wichita Kansas. I was shown on air with a small decorative tile made in Germany around 1895 -1900. My wife and I had a great time there. We are big Roadshow fans. I wish they would show a few old pocketknives every so often. :D
