A Couple Basket Cases

The first was a Case XX 10 dots, #6332. I think this makes it a 19790sThe bone on both handles was broken, both secondary blades were badly worn and one was missing a chunk of the blade. It had been pretty well beat up and I think some used it for a hammer on multiple occasions. However, most of you who know me know how much I love good carbon steel blade; I just couldn't let this clip blade go to waste. So, I had a little stag and converted it to a single blade.

I found this Queen in a pill bottle among a bunch of parts knives in my shop. Either I acquired it in pieces or I took it apart after I received it. I don't really recall, it was several years ago when I got it. I found the knife dissembled in a tall pill bottle, so maybe it is a pill bottle case instead of a basket case?

I have three different Queen tang stamp charts; two date this stamp as 1945-1948 and one dates it 1935-1955.

I had some new bone that I wanted to try on some handles, but it wasn't quite thick enough for this knife. I used red liner material between the bone and the brass liner. I really like the color of this bone!
This may not have been the correct blade for this frame. Apparently I wasn't very observant when I put it together and I didn't notice that the run up was proud of the back springs by about 1/16 inch, just enough to be uncomfortable when using it, so I rounded it little bit. I think this is my new EDC, (or maybe I will put it in the next POS roundtable).

The Case is nice. I actually like the pile side stag better than the mark side. Did you pick it that way?

That Queen is great. It must be so slim riding in the pocket. I love how the bone turned out.

When I picked them the mark side stage looked better (imho), but after hafting and finishing it, I noticed a flaw that I had to take down. As the handles ended up on the finished knife, I agree with you 100%. The pile side looks the best of the two.

It is very slim Glenn, only 3/8” thick. The bone was a color I had not worked with before. You know how it is with bone; often the color you have when it is finished is totally different than what you started with. It was not what I expected when I started, but I was quite pleased with the way it finished out.
