How about old guns, need some info.....

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Aquired this a while back, the maker is stamped on top of the barrel but its nearly all rubbed away, the only thing I can make out is 1871. Anyone know who may have made this just by looking at it, thats a 54 pattern trapper to show the size. Its a 6-shot .22cal.

How about the J.W.Marlin Co. I have a very similar one (much more plain) that holds 7 .22 cal shorts, LR or long is to big. A lot of these were made and many, like mine can be hidden in the palm of the hand. Many companies made these.

I've been going through my firearms library, and Hukk is right, damn near everyone made one of these. All my references state that the Marlins started in production in 1972. I did happen across this, though, if I may drift slightly off subject... My favorite western hero's gun. That long, elegant barrel might have made it slower to clear leather, but it does accent the gun. Much like the long barrel on the nickel plated colt that Alan Ladd carried as 'Shane' (it stuck out of the end of the holster by an inch).

Sorry I can't help more.

Would that be 1872? I know I have some older than 1972.

Uhh... Yep. 1872 is what I meant.

Here is one marked J.W.Marlin. This only uses .22 cal shorts, Longs or LR would stick out of the cylinder. This one is cheaply made and holds 7 .22 cal shorts. It's about 4 to 4 1/2 inches long and small enough to hide in my hand. It does stay locked up in my gun safe. Yeah, a real Saturday Night Special.
