Hi Palidin,

I didn't :( , but my buddy did ::tu:: - a 240 lb boar...check the "Outdoorsman" thread. I was hoping to take one out with the Garand....but it wasn't to be. Saw lots of white tail deer, Axis deer, and turkeys...but no hogs for me.....didn't shoot anything but a squirrel that was stealing corn out of the feeder as we were leaving.

Just a hop and a skip away. In fact, I killed my very first deer near there when I was just a youngster.

Cool. Those Axis deer have antlers with a similar composition to Sambar just not as rough on the outside. They were used extensively in Sheffield as well.

Picked up a nice 1903-A3
today, AND this little US M1917 Remington as well! I'm getting the barrel replaced on the '03 so no pics yet. The bore on this 1917 is shiny like new and gages like new too. The other nice thing is it came with a WW1 leather sling and a Remington made bayonet. Gonna go shooting tomorrow.
Oh, happy day!

My first Machine Gun and Cannon Shoot - I learned several things. First, ear muffs are a must. These guns are bigger and louder than your hunting rifle. Second, the funny looking box on the end of the barrel is a "brake" or maybe "break". It diverts concussive force away from the operator. Third, don't stand downwind and opposite the "brake" when the big one is fired. There was also a group of civil war re-enactors from Fort Phil Kearny with a pair of brass civil war howitzers. It was a fun and informative afternoon.

I pressed the shutter button just as the 95mm fired. You can see the dust cloud forming. For 5 seconds I was blinded by the dust.

Rent-a-Machine-Gun : one reason I don't own or operate one. This one was a little extreme though. The going rate for most of them was $15 for 30 rounds.

Nice rifles and bayonet, Blue ::tu::

I picked up the baby brother of my M1 Garand this weekend....a M1 Carbine made by Standard Product Co., with an Underwood barrel. Can't wait to shoot this one. I already have a bayonet on order from the CMP.

Awesome snake charmer Barry!

We had quite a few snakes in Southern Oregon; our snake charmer was a Ruger Bearcat .22.
Years after I left home I told my dad I wanted that gun when he was through with it.
He said that he traded it off a few years before I asked him.
That Bearcat with .22 snake loads was great protection from snakes. Though the only rattler I killed, I killed with a .22 rifle and .22 short shells. Looking back on it, I am surprised they had enough power to do the job!

Miller Bro`s wrote:Aimus,

You hit the nail on the head, good call ::tu:: Now I am going to have to find a gun to go with the clip ::facepalm:: Good to know about the corrosive primer though, I will remember to clean any gun right away if I use vintage ammo.

I know old ammo can be worth some good money, maybe these are worth $1 each ::shrug:: if they are they are already worth more than the clip they sit in, as I got several more that were loose when I bought the clip :D
ALL US mfr'd M-1 ammo was loaded with non-corrosive primers in WWII. ;)

That being said old M-1 Carbine ammo doesn't bring much unless it is a special loading like tracer or some other oddball stuff they tried. Usually 20 cents to 30 cents on a good day.

M-1 Carbine was actually a great battle rifle. It doesn't have the range or knock down of the '06 but it can and will hit and kill at 400 yds with a competent shooter.

Skip over to the 3:00 mark and watch what they did with carbines.
