counterfeit case bowie knife

Post by yardsales »

I bought this knife at a yard sale today for my husband. He instantly said its fake so I looked at case's tang stamps online and sure enough there wasn't a match. I'm trying to learn how to spot good knifes at sales for him. I was just wondering if anyone had seen one like this before or could tell me anything about it.

Yikes, there's that thing again. ::barf:: Yep, it's a fake. The best thing to do is pick up some books on knife collecting and start reading. A vast amount of knowledge here on AAPK as well, you could probably do a search on "counterfeit Case fixed blade" and find more on this knife. Welcome to the best knife site on the web! ::tu::

The quality of the finish is usually a key indicator. Have your husband show you some real ones and yiu can see what they are supposed to look like.

This knife has been kicked around for the last few years. When it comes to looking for knives that are special you can't beat education. I have my wife on a $25 limit when she runs into one. After that she can call me and I'll go check it out. She is reading all my books and rags to learn. I have to add though that I have been taken a few times and that was part of my learning curve.

Thanks for all the feedback! I must say I've learned a lot since I've bought this knife - next time they wont see me coming from soo far away. ::smirk:: I only paid 10 bucks for this knife so I don't feel too bad, but at least I've learnt from my mistake.
