This is something that I have been kicking around in my head for awhile now.As you may or may not know, most of the lettering done on my 1955 Pontiac Safari wagon is a tribute to artists whom I have either known or have had an influence in my life. The other is mostly sayings I have observed from my travels or have read or heard.
Anyway I got this idea for a panel that would pay homage to these people that are no longer with us and could be displayed at the various charity automotive art auctions I attend.I contacted a good friend and fellow artist to help me construct the panel.
It will be made from a sheet of aluminum approximately 24" wide and 4 ft long. The ends will be rolled to simulate an unfurling scroll and it will be painted the color of parchment and artificially aged around the edges. It will be displayed on a stand. The title of the panel will be the,"Scroll of Sorrow".It will list the names of the artists along with their birth and death dates.
In the meantime I took a section of a painted area on my car that somewhat resembled the shape I was looking for and over painted a scroll onto the fender.I then began to letter the names of artists on the scroll. So far I have managed to fill about half of the scroll and I know that I have barely scratched the surface. It is just my way of saying thanks to all the people I have known in the trade and those who have influenced me to become what I have today.
Here is a picture of the scroll as it stands today along with some detail shots of the other art work.Hope you enjoy it.

Never had the honor of meeting him but understand he was,"unique". The bus/machine shop/home was purchased by another striper from out that way(Steve Kafka) for an ungodly amount of money($150,000 if I remember correctly)and a lot of the stuff was missing from it but some of the painted areas were still intact. Steve is currently doing a complete restoration of the bus.gringo wrote:i knew von dutch...when he was in tempe...

Although I've never met Bob personally I do know he was a close associate of Dutch.I've seen a couple of letters to him from Dutch that had been posted on a forum.
